The children in class 8 spent time critiquing their partners draft writing from yesterday. They learnt how to ‘be kind’, ‘be helpful ‘ and ‘be specific’ in their feedback. They were so helpful to their friends and it really helped them to check spellings in their writing and to ensure that their sentences made sense. What a fabulous start to year 2.

Over the last half term the children have enjoyed step by step videos helping them to improve sketching skills and following instructions. The children have a vote and choose different things to draw each week. Below is some examples. You have all been amazing !! 😊
I have been absolutely blown away today with the amount of fantastic effort that every single child in class 8 has put into their writing. They have all been working on their handwriting, which is now looking beautiful for everyone. I love the pride that they have taken in their work and the effort has not gone unnoticed, which is why I wanted a picture of everyone on the blog! Amazing work class 8, I am so, so proud of your progress!

A reminder that tomorrow will be a whole school non-uniform day to raise money for the NSPCC. We are asking for a donation of £1 to support their charity.
Challenge – To end the week, could you complete a random act of kindness at home or in our local community and send a photograph to your teacher.
We’ve had a huge celebration this morning not just for learning but also for being kind as part of our kind week. We’ve had our first reading certificates handed out today for out bronze award too for reaching 30 reads! As always we are so proud of all of our winners. Keep working hard everyone!
As it is National kindness week Crew Shaw have coloured in our ‘It’s cool to be kind’ posters. They have also talked about how they can be kind to staff and teachers at school and have given shoutouts for their friends that have shown them kindness. I’m very proud of my kind crew who always think about other children and their feelings. Well done guys!

Next week, we will be taking part in a week full of activities linking to Kindness. This is part of the NSPCC fundraising and awareness week.
We will be taking part in lots of fun activities during Crew each day and there will be lots of opportunities for children to complete Kindness Challenges at home too.
Next Friday, to raise money for the NSPCC, we will be holding a Non-Uniform Day for donations of £1.
We have started reading our new text in year 2 today, which is called ‘Let the children march’. It is a beautiful text which explains how desegregation started in 1963 because of the influence of Martin Luther King Jnr. In collaborative groups, they all read sections of the text and then answered questions based on what they had read. I was really impressed with them today and how understanding and mature they have been about the subjects we have been discussing.
The children then wrote some sentences using some of the ambitious vocabulary that we had learnt from the text, such as; revolution, discrimination, activists, racism and equality. This is a picture of some of the children who had beautiful presentation today and I was very excited for George to be the second person to choose a sparkly pencil because of his gorgeous pre- cursive handwriting! Well done class 8…you impress me more and more every day!

In crew this morning, year 2 read a poem about our most prized possessions. It was called ‘My treasures’and was written by Kate Wakeling. The children drew pictures of their own prized possessions and then we collaboratively wrote our own poem, with rhyming words. The children really enjoyed writing it and I am impressed at their use of phonics to support finding rhyming couplets.
