Class 12 – generating vocabulary

It was an English hook lesson today for the start of our new cycle. The children had some images from our new class texts and several areas to focus on to describe. Colour, buildings, people, emotions, sound and smell. I was very impressed with the amount they managed to generate and how high quality some of the words were! I can’t wait to see how you use them in your writing.

Class 12 – kindness shout out!

I would personally like to shout out for Lexi in our class. Who has showed such beautiful kindness to my little girl by taking the time to make her a little colouring book! Anola is sat playing now and is so happy you made it for her so I thought I’d share, what a beautiful thing to do Lexi! Thank you.

Year 4 – our amazing WW2 expert

We had a wonderful expert visitor in school today who had fantastic WW2 knowledge and had even researched into people who lived in Thorne but played keys roles in the war, one who was actually awarded the Victoria Cross.

The children also got to see different original items from the war, uniform, weapons, gas masks and lots of other items too. They were hooked! Just ask them about it, if they haven’t shared with you already.

Class 12: Allies vs Axis power

The children had their first attempt at roll in the wall today. I must say, after a couple of wobbles and a little confusion, they picked it up extremely quickly and did a great job! I was impressed to see how much information each group gathered from the original posters and them remembered at the very end of the lesson. Well done.

Sculpture club

Just want to say a big thank you to sculpture club. They were fab at listening and learning about the different paper sculpture techniques this week! Check out what they have done below. A few more techniques to show them next week, but they have been set a challenge to think about what they’d like to start to make. Ensuring they apply some of these techniques to create something 3D!

Class 12 – Evacuation

We have all enjoyed a lovely trip to our local Methodist Church today. Where the children were asked to put themselves in the shoes of the children who were evacuated during WW2. They used some wonderful vocabulary to describe feelings which made me very proud! We also had a short introduction to one of our new class texts which shared the evacuation story of the main character, Lennie.

Ask them at home what they can remember about how the evacuation process worked or what they were allowed to take with them in their suitcase!

Here they are looking sad (on purpose) and working hard in some of the activities we asked them to take part it.

Class 12 : WW2 planes

We kicked started our day with a small but lovely activity to add to the immersion of our classroom. The children coloured wooden pegs and lolly sticks in camouflage patterns and colours to create quick and easy ww2 planes! The finished outcome looked amazing I can’t wait to get them all up in display!
