#Take10toRead in Crew Jackson

On Friday morning, in Crew Jackson, we took part in the the National Literacy Trust take 10 to read challenge. The children really enjoyed listening live to Tom Percival read an extract from his new book then teach them how to show different emotions in their drawings. We went on to escape for 10 minutes with a good book. There is nothing better for your well-being than reading a good book!

Year 5/6 family learning

REMINDER

Dear parents/carers,Β

On Tuesday 12th October 2021 weΒ  will be inviting you to join our family learning celebration. Our current expedition is centred around the history of rail and we would like toΒ  work closely with the local community by supporting Thorne Miniature Railway, who are currently fundraising to keep their service running.Β

This will be taking place in Thorne Park where our children will be hosting stalls to raise funds in support of the miniature railway.Β

On Friday 1st October we will be taking part in a non-uniform day. To come in non uniform we would appreciate a donation for the tombola that will be one of the stalls at our fundraiser.Β

On family learning day we would like to invite you to join us at Thorne park and support your children. On 12/10/21, Year 5 and 6 will be running stalls and have the opportunity to have a ride on the miniature train and learn about how it works.Β

To enable this to happen children will need to be collected from Green Top at 2:00pm and meet us in the park by 2:15. This will give you a chance to enjoy the event prior to the rest of school and the local public being invited to join us at 3:00pm. Unfortunately if you are unable to join us children will remain in school until 3pm where they can be collected as usual.Β

Please email [email protected] to let us know your intentions.Β

Thank you, Team 5/6.Β

It’s okay to be okay!

In
Β Crew Jackson we have explored our new feeling charts and the 5 point scale they represent. We have spent time in crew circle discussing how it is okay to feel okay! We explored how in the past the children have said they are feeling angry or sad but now when they reflect they realise they are β€œ okay but tired…okay but something upset them…okay but something hurts.”

We talked about how it feels, what it looks like and what it sounds like when we have a serious concern or are out of control. It was good to hear the children reflect on behaviours linked to these feelings.

Challenging stereotypes in community crew

This morning in Crew Jackson we discussed the issue of gender stereotypes. The children showed great maturity in their discussions around gender and interests, the way we look and the jobs and activities we do. I was really impressed with their positive and reflective attitudes.

Fundraising for Thorne Miniature Railway

Who can win the clean water challenge?

What a fab afternoon we had in Year 5 today. I loved the collaboration, communication skills, problem solving and determination the children had. Just 45 minutes to turn a bottle of dirty water into the cleanest water they could!

Check out the photos to see how they did it!

Well done guys – you were awesome!

Mrs Jackson

What are the best conditions for dissolving sugar?

Year 5 are becoming serious scientists! This afternoon we investigated what the best conditions are for dissolving sugar. We had to make sure our experiments were fair tests by thinking carefully about what we should keep the same and what we should change. The children drew some clear conclusions about which temperature the water needs to be and made some excellent suggestions for further investigations
