Y5/6 Science lecture at Trinity

This morning, Y5 and Y6 visited Trinity to listen to a science lecture linked to their expedition about space and forces. This gave them the opportunity to experience what it is like to give a lecture and present their learning. This will support them in preparing their own for our celebration of learning.

Well done everyone for being great ambassadors for Green Top, with excellent learning attitudes and behaviour whilst on our visit. I know you impressed Mr Taylor, Head of Science, with your subject knowledge.

Y6 SPaG site to support home learning

Please find a link below to a SPaG revision website that I have created to support the children in developing their knowledge of grammar, punctuation and spelling rules. This knowledge is tested on the Year 6 SPaG papers.

Here is the link: https://sites.google.com/greentopschool.org/year-6-spag-revision/home

I hope you find it useful and it supports any learning at home. I will continue to add to it throughout the year and set homework linked to areas we need to focus on.

Thank you

Mrs Jackson

Class 16 – Investigating Fabulous Forces

This week, Class 16 have been learning all about forces as part of our science-focused expedition looking at space. We have conducted experiments to learn more about gravity, air resistance, water resistance and friction.

Why not ask us more about our investigations and test our knowledge about how parachutes can help slow vehicles down or how streamlining an object can make it move faster in water?

Take a look at our air resistance investigation, where we made different sized parachutes to see how they affected the drop time of an object:

Y5 / Y6 Community Crew and OOTW

This morning was our first opportunity to come together as a phase crew since returning to school after the half-term. It was a great to hear what everybody had been learning in class this week and to celebrate a fantastic start to the term – well done everybody, keep up the fab work!

Special shout outs for those children receiving HOWLs certificates today, and to our OOTW champions too. Who will be celebrating next week?

Crew Jackson – Collaborative maths

Wow! Today I was blown away by the hard work of all members of Crew Jackson. We showed fantastic collaborative skills in our maths lesson. I heard great mathematical discussions about methods and calculations they should use to solve a range of problems. Watching the ‘be kind’ norms of patience and encouragement when a peer was finding something difficult was wonderful to see. I loved listening to fantastic explanations of strategies for solving problems as they coached each other. Keep up the hard work Crew Jackson – you were just super stars all day! 😊
