British Values 🇬🇧

In expedition this week, we have been looking at what it means when we talk about culture and values. The children were able to discuss what values were important to them before looking at the values that we share in this country; democracy, individual liberty, the rule of law and mutual respect and tolerance of others. We then looked at ways in which these are promoted throughout Green Top and how they have been impacted more recently as a result of the pandemic. I was really impressed with some of the deep and thought provoking conversations that we were able to have as a class.

Budding photographers!

As part of Hook Week, Year 6 because photographers today!

Before taking pictures, we looked at the different camera angles that can be used to create images. These included: low angles, high angles, eye-level angles, bird’s eye view angles and tilted angles!

I have to say that the photos that were taken were brilliant and really blew all of the adults away! Watch out for the upcoming video which will showcase some of the children’s beautiful work!

Expedition Presentations!

In Year 6 today, some children were presenting their expeditionary learning to other schools within the trust. Some of the children presented to Plover School whilst some presented to Norton School. Although there were a few nerves, it was fantastic to see the courage on show. It is never easy to present to others but they all did an amazing job of showcasing their learning throughout this expedition. Well done to all involved!

The Great Green Top Bake Off!!!

A group of Year 6 girls have been challenging themselves in the kitchen.  Every Sunday they join a zoom call, set the challenge and the timer and off they go!  Every Monday Mrs Overson, Mr Taylor and Miss Knowles get to try these delicious treats and give them feedback!  The teachers are blown away by the quality of their baking and are put to shame as they could never bake to this quality!  Check out some of their sweet treats:

Week 1: cake!

Week 2: biscuits!

Week 3: Easter treats!

I’m sure you’ll agree that their creations are amazing and I can definitely tell you that they taste awesome!!!!

As part of our guiding question, today we focused on appreciating Marcus Rashford for his influence and support during the pandemic. We learnt about his fundraising, his free school meal support and the fact that he taught himself sign language so he could participate in judging a competition. He has really been a pillar in all communities so we wanted to celebrate that by writing him thank you letters and poems!

Preparing our Product!

Y6 have been busy putting the finishing touches to their Google Slide for their expedition products today. As part of our product and celebration, we are presenting our slides via Google Hangout to some of the other schools in the trust! Our slides are an end product of all of our learning on evolution.

Crew Building Challenge

On Tuesday this week, the children were challenged to create a structure using only marshmallows and toothpicks. They had to work together as a team to build the tallest possible structure. They had to ensure that the structure was light enough that it didn’t collapse under the weight but also sturdy enough to support the weight above it. Some structures remained standing and some of them did eventually collapse but it was really good to see some of the different ideas and teamwork on show.
