SPAG Lesson

Today in english class 9 worked collaboratively to find synonyms using the online thesaurus. I was so impressed by how wonderfully they worked together and how fantastic they are becoming at using iPads.

Academic Crew – Handwriting practice

In academic crew this week, we spent time practicing handwriting – really focusing on ascending and descending letters. We worked on words that will be really useful for our next case study in expedition: Music. They put so much effort into this and I can see that with practice writing will become even more high quality.

Community Crew – Internet Safety

Today’s community crew session we re-visited everything we have learnt about internet safety and how to stay safe online. The children worked together to create some amazing poster’s with lots of information and do’s and don’ts for this domain.

NSPCC Maths Day

A huge shout out to all of class 9 for the amazing effort they put into their maths related outfits for NSPCC – look at all these happy faces, who have made a difference!

Year 3/4 Crew Assembly

A huge well done to this weeks HoWL point winners! You are all setting a great example to your crews by working hard, getting smart and being kind. Keep it up!

Also, a shout out to Crew Faulding, Crew Myers and Crew Barnett on getting 100% attendance last week. Let’s hope that we keep this momentum after half term too!

It’s always great to get you all together and to celebrate lots of wonderful learning!

Community Crew – Online Safety

In today’s community crew we discussed online safety and what it means to be safe online. The children had to look round the room at the fairytale scenario cards that were not all they seemed, they then discussed each tale and found solutions and ways to safely react to each story.

Let’s support! Small changes that make a big difference!

Ariel are asking you to support their campaign by pledging to make a change!

Washing colder is a big step towards a brighter future for our planet because did you know, the temperature of your wash makes up to 60% of your laundry’s CO2 footprint?

Can you challenge friends and family to lower the temperature next time they do their laundry? When Ariel hit 1 million pledges, they will donate £100,000 to WWF’s climate, polar and wider conservation work. Not only this, but they will also make a donation for every Ariel pods cold wash special patch that is purchased too.

Can you help us with this and pledge to make a change? Follow the link…

Digital Leaders

Notice for all students in Year 2 to Year 5!

Students in Year 2, 3, 4 and 5 have an amazing opportunity to become a Digital Leader within their class.

This is a fantastic opportunity for children to develop their own individual skills when it comes to the latest technology. Children who are successful will get the opportunity to visit XP East and potentially the Apple Store to have further training on how to use technology including iPads, MacBooks and some of the other great products that are used throughout school. Our Digital Leaders will then become the experts who can then pass on their knowledge to others.

Below is a link to the Digital Leaders website where you can find out further information.

https://sites.google.com/xpeast.org/digital-leader-applications/home

Applications will need to be sent to Mr Taylor by Thursday 3rd February explaining why you would make a fantastic Digital Leader. This can be done in a format of your choice including a letter, slides or even a video showcasing your IT skills.

We look forward to receiving your applications!

Morning Crew

This morning we had a crew session on kindness and re-visited how important our HOWLS are and why we should always be kind to each other. We listened to a story about uniqueness and made pledges at the end.

Walking through the story

We had a wonderful lesson in english last week where the children were re-hooked into our anchor text ‘The Last Bear’. We set up the hall with lights and made it feel dark and cold to resemble the scenes in the text, they were asked to follow the trail of lights and with torches connect with the pictures and the readings to immerse themselves into the story further, thinking about how the characters feel and what could happen next.
