KS1: Miss Schon’s Phonics Group

I have seen some beautiful reading this week. The children’s confidence is growing week on week and it is so lovely to see. The children are also becoming much more confident with their sentence writing. Now we are working to secure our spelling skills. Keep it up – I am so proud of you.

In addition to this the children have also been doing some extra phonics lessons in the afternoons. This week and next week we will be learning the split digraph sounds like Miss Rodger’s and Mrs Clay’s group. So far we have learned /a-e/, /e-e/ and /i-e/. I wonder if you can read words for the sheets below?

Class 5: Story Time

Yesterday Class 5 enjoyed a story read by Phoebe! Phoebe chose a book to bring to school to read to the class. She did a super job! Thank you Phoebe.

Class 5 Superstars!

Look at these superstars who have been busy outside of school over the past few weeks! Bella was Star of the Week in her dancing class, Hero won 3 medals and then was awarded a trophy for being the runner up in her age group at her local dance competitions and Mavis has taken a promise at her local church group.

I am very proud of you all. Thank you for telling me and Class 5 all about what you did to earn your special achievements!

Crew Schon 100% Attendance!

Crew Schon were thrilled to achieve 100% attendance for the first time this year! We have been working hard to earn some money in our crew kitty and we did it two weeks in a row! We now have £10 in our crew kitty and we can’t wait to spend it at Mrs Fitzpatricks trolley at the end of the term. We are hoping to collect even more money before then! Well done Crew Schon, I know how excited you have all been about this and now we get to have Paddington Bear in our classroom as a reward. Paddington loves watching what we do every day in our class.

KS1: Miss Cooper’s Phonics Group

Miss Cooper has been really pleased with her phonics group over the past few weeks. Some of the children blew us away with heir phonics check scores and their accuracy when reading words!

This week the children have been learning /ar/ start the car.

Miss Cooper has been encouraging children to read their reading books at home to show off their super reading skills. Please read with your child as often as possible as reading the same books more than once will really help their confidence and reading fluency. Also please remember to practise your phonics homework sheets and red words!

KS1: Miss Rodger’s Phonics Group

Miss Rodgers phonics group have begun learning the split digraph sounds. This week they have been learning about split digraph e-e. The children have been continuing to develop their reading fluency but some of the children have been struggling with recalling the red words they have learned so far. Please practise your phonics sheets and red word sets 1-4 at home as often as possible please as this will really help your child’s reading fluency in our next set of assessments.

KS1: Miss Schon’s Phonics Group

This week we have been learning /ea/ ‘Time for tea. We have been learning to read and spell words containing our three known /ee/ graphemes. We know that some words only use one ‘e’ for /ee/ and some use ‘ee’ or ‘ea’.

I have been really impressed with he children’s effort and enthusiasm and I can tell the children have been practising their red words and reading books at home! I have heard some super reading over the past few weeks! This week we have been working on our accuracy and checking that we look carefully and words to ensure we read them correctly.

We now have a new ‘fun phonics’ session in an afternoon where we have also been learning about split digraphs. Yesterday we learned about split digraph /a-e/ like in the words cake, bake, sale, take, snake. The children loved learning about split digraphs!

Please remember to send reading books back every Friday so that I can change the children’s shared reading books in our phonics session.

Thank You
