Class 5 Expedition
In class 5 we have been really enjoying our new expedition North, South, East, West – Where will my journey take me? Here are some photographs of the things we have been up to in our expedition lessons so far!
KS1 Phonics
Phonics is a huge part of our learning journey in Year 1. Our phonics skills determine how well we can read and write. In KS1 we have our daily phonics and shared reading lessons. The sounds and words we learn are the building blocks needed for being a successful reader and writer. It is our mission to ensure all children are successful in their phonics learning. Some children have additional daily practise throughout the week to help them to secure their skills. Each week children take home a phonics homework sheet and their shared reading book. It is crucial that children have the opportunity to share these with someone at home to help them to retain their learning. This is also used for parents/carers information so that you can see the sounds and words your child should already know and will need to continue to know as they move through the next stages of their learning.
We are having a lot of reading books unreturned every week or returned but have not been read at home. Please try to share reading books and homework sheets with your child each week. The more practise your child has the more successful they are likely to be in their learning. Please also remember to return your books on the correct day of the week as children need them in their lessons.
Thank You
KS1 Team
Miss Cooper Group – In Miss Coopers group we have been focussing on retaining our phonics knowledge. We are beginning to read words in sentences and spell words correctly using the phonics sounds we have been taught.

Miss Schon Group – The children have been doing amazing at remembering their phonics sounds an they are now able to read a range of words much more confidently. Some children have developed much better reading fluency skills but still need plenty of practise to ensure we are on track with our reading by the end of the year. We are working on our reading fluency and spelling skills. We will laso be working on our reading comprehension skills. Please ensure all children practise their phonics homework and reading books on a weekly basis.

Miss Rodgers and Mrs Clays Group – Children have been working hard to improve their spelling and reading fluency skills. Children have also been working on answering reading comprehension questions, showing an understanding of what they have read.

Class 5 POL
Thank you so much to everyone who attended our presentation of learning today. We have absolutely loved our expedition this term and making our skrinky dink products. It was so nice to see how excited the children were with their keyrings today and seeing them enjoying little picnics with their friends when they had made their food! It has been great to see the children being hands-on and using kitchen equipment to cut, peel and grate. I hope everyone had lots of fun!
