Grappling with maths!

Some of the Y6 children in Crew Knowles have been grappling with long division for the past two days. They have used models and videos to try and teach themselves how to use the skill of long division.

I am so incredibly proud and impressed with the resilience that they have shown and the determination to succeed! They are supporting each other, coaching each other and generally just showing a real sense of crew!

Well done guys – I can’t believe how quickly you are picking up the skill!

Preparing our Product!

Y6 have been busy putting the finishing touches to their Google Slide for their expedition products today. As part of our product and celebration, we are presenting our slides via Google Hangout to some of the other schools in the trust! Our slides are an end product of all of our learning on evolution.

Tuesday Meditation!

As part of our mindfulness this week, we decided to look at and try meditation. Meditation is not for everyone but I’m so proud of my class and how they embraced it! I think it made us all feel sleepy and relaxed afterwards!

Monday Mindfulness!

In our crew sessions this week we are focusing on mindfulness. Today we discussed what mindfulness activities we might do to help keep our minds happy and healthy! Our crew had lots of great ideas such as reading, painting, listening to music and playing our favourite game!

Unsurprisingly, one they didn’t mention was exercise! However we talked about the importance of exercise and how it keeps not only our bodies healthy but our minds to!

Here we are kick starting our Monday with Joe Wicks to give us an energy boost ready for the day!

March Reading Challenge!

Join in with our March reading challenge by helping us to earn 250,000 reading minutes!

Log how many minutes you have read this week at home!

Don’t log the minutes you have read in school as your teachers have done this for you!

What a cracking morning!

After two fantastic crew sessions where we worked collaboratively and supported each other, qe tested out our parachutes this morning which was very egg-citing!! It is safe to say there were some eggcellent creations but unfortunately not all groups managed to protect their egg!

Computing in Y6

We have been learning new skills in year 6 during our expedition – case study 3 ‘computing’.  We have been coding and debugging – very technical!  It has been great fun grappling with the codes and identifying the bugs within them.  We have learnt how specific and detailed codes need to be when controlling inputs and outputs in order for them to complete actions you require.  The year 6 staff are very impressed with our little computing experts this week!

Protect the egg!

Crew Knowles have taken on the challenge of protecting an egg when it has been dropped from a height! Today we started to make our protective devices ready for the egg launch tomorrow! Watch this space to see how well we did!

Marshmallow Constructions!

We kick started our crew challenges this week by creating structures using only marshmallows and cocktail sticks! Each group had to work as a crew to create the tallest and nicest looking structure!

It is safe to say that by the end, the marshmallows were very sticky!!

Silence is golden!

On Friday, we did a couple of different crew activities which involved being completely silent! The children really had to think outside of the box to communicate as they weren’t allowed to write things down either!

Each child had a coloured sticker of their forehead and they had no idea which colour they were! They had to find the rest of their matching colour group without actually speaking to each other! They were really successful and I’m so proud of my crew and their resilience!
