It was fantastic to see all their happy little faces after hearing why they had received their certificates this week. Well done all. Keep being super stars!

Here are last week’s out of this world winners for year 3 and 4. There were some gorgeous words said about all out winners this week and we are so proud of them all. Well done and keep working hard!
We had lots of fun today investigating which materials make either conductors or insulators. We learnt that metal objects such as scissors, paperclips and tin foil make excellent conductors within our electrical circuits. Unfortunately, wood and plastic not so much! They were insulators and stopped the electricity flowing through the circuit and the bulb didn’t light up.
The week beginning 30th January will be ‘Maths Week’ and we will have lots of fun things happening in school to raise the profile of maths.
Below are some dates that you may want to know in advance:
Thursday 2nd February 2pm – 4pm : Maths drop in session
Join us in the hall to play some fun maths games with your child/ren between the times of 2pm and 4pm. Feel free to drop in at anytime between these times. This will be led by the Learning Council so please come along to support.
Friday 3rd February: NSPCC Number dress up day!
On Friday 3rd, we are encouraging the children to dress up in maths and number related outfits to raise money for the NSPCC charity. Suggested donation is £1.
Today we looked at finding and identifying the different features of a scientific report ready to write our own tomorrow!
Today, Crew Knowles focused on writing instructions to build a working circuit with a bulb and a switch. We had to focus on ensuring our instructions were clear and specific. The children then paired up and followed each others’ instructions to see just how accurate they were!
We had great fun yesterday in Crew Knowles investigating circuits and seeing if we could make the bulb light up. There was lots of cheering when the bulbs did light! I was so proud of the prior knowledge and resilience when investigating how to create a circuit and they didn’t give up until it worked! We then went on to investigate what would happen if we added more bulbs or more batteries.
We’re looking forward to experimenting with buzzers and switches later on in our learning!
Later on in our expedition we will be looking at teeth so during Hook Week, we created some nice fluffy ones that can be hung in our classroom to add to our environment!
Today we were introduced to our second case study – biology! We are looking forward to building on our KS1 knowledge of plants and animals and learn some of the more in depth characteristics of plants. Today, we created some lovely pictures to help decorate our classroom!
We’ve had a lovely first day back in Year 4 today! We spent the first part of the morning prepping for our upcoming SLCs and the second part, getting hooked into our science learning!
Our first case study is physics and focuses on electricity. We completed an electricity hunt around school and tried to decide whether the electrical devices were producing heat, movement, sound or light! We then sorted lots of electrical equipment based on whether it was mains or battery powered. A great start to our learning!
