Year 1 Spelling

This half term we have been focussing on spelling red words. We will now consolidate our learning by practising spelling all of the red words we have been learning this half term. We have added two new red words ‘little’ and ‘your’ which we have introduced in class during our lessons. I wonder which red words you can remember to spell and which ones you need more practise with?

Extended Study – Half Term Challenge!

On November 1st it is National Authors Day!

With all of our hard work towards our Reading Library we’d like to know who your favourite authors are?

How could you celebrate your favourite author?

  • You could share a story with a family member and take a picture to share
  • Listen to a story being read by your favourite author
  • Listen to a podcast
  • Create a fact-file about your favourite author
  • Be creative and become an author and write your own story! We could even have these displayed in your reading area!

We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Have a lovely half term!

Year 1 Phonics

This week in phonics we have been learning the grapheme /ay/ may I play.

We now know three grams that make this sound – /ai/, /ay/ and /a/

The children are beginning to identify which grapheme we need to spell common words.

We have also been continuing to work on our reading fluency and recognition of red words.

Can you read the /ai/ words? Can you spell the words without looking?

Extended Study – National Space Week

How many astronauts do you know?

As part of National Space Week, why don’t you choose an astronaut to research? You could make a poster or a fact file about your chosen astronaut.

You could even listen to the story of Tim Peake, Neil Armstrong and Mae Jemison. Did you know these Big Dreams, Little People book are quizzable on Accelerated Reader?
