Awesome writing in class 7.

As part of our second case study in our expedition we are re-writing the story of Man in the Moon. The children are telling the story from the point of view of the aliens and used some amazing adjectives, fantastic conjunctions and wonderful punctuation to write the first part of the story this morning…and this was only the first draft! I cannot wait to see your final drafts after editing and improving tomorrow.

Great job!

What 3 words in Crew Rodgers?

In crew this morning we played a game of what 3 words?. This is an opportunity for the children to think about 3 words that describe who they are. A difficult enough concept for an adult let alone a crew of 20 five and six year olds. The children did amazingly well though, and came up with some really insightful adjectives to describe their personalities. I was pleased to see that nearly all the children described themselves as happy, with kind coming a close second. Other words were beautiful, friendly, hardworking and helpful.

I couldn’t agree more guys…and one more word I would like to add to describe you all…AWESOME!

Class 7 re-hook

To re hook the children back into our expedition we looked at satellite images of the effects of climate change on the polar ice regions. We discussed global warming and the children made some excellent suggestions of the small changes they could make that would help to cut down the emissions that are causing the ice to melt and sea levels to rise.

Take a look at these fantastic posters the children produced to raise awareness of climate change.

Fantastic job guys!

Astronaut snacks in class 7

We were lucky enough today to snack like astronauts as part of our latest case study slice. During half term our Martha visited Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh and kindly brought us back some freeze dried ice-cream to try…just like the real astronauts eat while flying missions in space. We were able to choose between chocolate or strawberry and as you can see MOST of us thought it was delicious!

Thank you Martha!

KS1 art club

Today we had a challenge to draw 4 different natural things found in the quad area. We went foraging for different things, like flowers, trees, leaves, grass. Then we spent some time sketching and drawing each of them. It was so peaceful!!

Awesome geography in class 7

We spent a very exciting expedition lesson this morning by using Google Earth to investigate human and physical features. We zoomed in from a satellite to our school and compared it to a coastal location. the children were all able to identify the features and most of us could also define them by saying whether they were human or physical.

Great job guys!

Quite literally ‘out of this world’ home learning from Charlotte in class 7

All of the staff and children were blown away by this fabulous piece of work that our Charlotte has spent many hours creating at home after being inspired by our latest expedition, North, South, East, West. Where could your journey take you? In our second case study we have been learning about the inspirational life of Mae Jemison, the first black woman to travel into space.

Charlotte created her ‘sew-lar’ system using felt, buttons and sequins whilst also learning lots of different embroidery stitches. The attention to detail is astonishing…it even has accurate constellations and Jupiter’s famous red spot, a storm that scientists believe has been raging on the planet for at least 300 years! (She also included Pluto, as she has learned that it is no longer classed as part of our solar system due to it being too small and she felt sorry for it!)

Why not ask your children to tell you some of the facts they have learned? They really do love sharing their learning with you.

Carry on aiming for the stars you fabulous little humans and who knows…one day you might go there for real 🌟

Maths Club

This week in maths club we have been looking at worded problems using multiplication and division.

Great work from everyone!

Y1 Weekly spellings

The children will be coming home tonight with this week’s spellings. Please help them to practise for a spelling quiz on Monday. The words are:

weather, climate, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, North, South, East, West.

Any questions please ask Miss Schon or myself.

Thanks so much for your continued support.

Class 7 King Charles pen portraits

We ended our first case study today by assembling our King Charles fact files in the form of pen portraits. We had worked in groups to do internet research and take bullet pointed notes and then used our SPAG learning to add conjunctions to make sentences. After that we critiqued, edited and improved our writing and used a ’jigsaw’ protocol…where one member of each group split into a new group to share our learning… to produce these truly amazing tributes to the journey of our new King.

Bear in mind the children who produced this outstanding work are 5 and 6 year olds! Just imagine the journey they are embarking on if this is what they can produce in year one!

I am beyond proud of you all xx
