Where would we go if our heart needed a plaster?

We had a lovely discussion today as part of children’s mental health week about where or rather who, we could go to if we were feeling sad, lonely, upset or scared. It was wonderful to hear that the children had a wide ranging support network of adults that they could share their problems with. The children learned a new saying ‘a problem shared is a problem halved’ and we talked about some of the things that make us sad. Well done guys.

Bobby won our learning legend postcard today for his fabulous listening which led to awesome learning.

Keep on getting smart Bobby, it really does make a difference.

Today we were geographers!!!

Today we explored globes and atlases to find out what they were used for. We found different features and used vocabulary from the word wall to help us to understand what geography is.

The children generated some great questions that they wanted to learn more about…

I think this is going to be a great case study.

Final Touchdown Writing

This morning in Crew Ambler, we have been very busy critiquing our writing and editing and improving. The children worked collaboratively to ensure that the features from our rubric were in their adventure story. Well done Crew Ambler.

National Story Telling Week

A big thank you to everyone who brought in their own books last week to share with the class as part of National story telling week. It was so wonderful to read snippets of your books each day as well as discussing your favourite bits of the stories and your most loved characters.

I hope that you all enjoyed sharing your books too with your friends and perhaps found some new stories that you’d like to dive in to?

Magic Maths!

This is a shout out to everyone in Crew Faulding for being absolute super stars in magic maths over the last couple of weeks.

I feel that now we are really secure in our maths model and the expectations that underpin this. We come in from break, get settled straight away and begin our learning with such a positive learning attitude, ready to lead our own learning and be ‘our best selves’.

Well done everyone, keep it up! Super proud!!

Target crew in class 8

This morning during crew, the children looked through their expedition books with a partner and were critiquing the first case study. They used the time to focus on the learning that had taken place, to see the progress that they had made since the start of term and to appreciate the huge improvement of presentation this term.

Great feedback and personal ‘I wonders’ came from this activity, including many children wanting to achieve a ‘sparkly’ pencil for ALWAYS using pre-cursive handwriting.

Keep up the great work class 8 x

Think, stop, rewind!

This afternoon Year 4 took part in a Road Safety session provided by Doncaster Council. We watched various different scenarios surrounding the dangers posed when crossing roads and discussed how these situations could have been avoided.

You all had such sensible suggestions and had lots of prior knowledge already so well done everyone! Now it’s just ensuring that we remember these when we are out and about to keep ourselves and others safe!

We are Scientists in year 4!

In Expedition this week, we’ve been exploring magnets and thinking carefully about how they could be used to support our guiding question ‘Why should we protect our beautiful planet?’.

As part of our Science Case Study, we looked at the properties of a magnet and how they can very cleverly repel or attract. We also thought about where we see magnets around our homes and what they can be used for.

We discussed how magnets can be useful when recycling and how this will help the world that we live in!

Next, we will be investigating different objects and materials and developing our understanding further!

Silent Discussion in English!

Well done Crew Faulding! Each time we do this protocol I feel that we are getting better and better. you are all stars and I can’t wait to read your final setting descriptions.

Children’s Mental Health Week

We are celebrating Children’s Mental Health Week in crew all this week and today we listened to a story and focused on who would make up our support bubble.

We listened to the story ‘Lucy’s Blue Day’ and thought about the important message of the story. Why not listen to the story yourself?

After listening to the story, we thought about the people that help us to grow, and the people that we would share our feelings with. We created our own hot air ‘support’ balloon to always remind us that there are people to lift us up!

Why not have a go at creating your own support balloon following the tutorial below?
