This morning, Class 11 worked superbly well together so that they could find and then understand the features of a newspaper report, in preparation for our next set of writing. We looked into headlines, fronted adverbials and how we need to use facts to get the true story out there. We’ll be practising this in the coming days, especially the 5Ws when it comes to writing introductions!
Here is how Class 11s fossils turned out. The ’rocks’, after a period of time created their own fossil cast, just as we predicted.
Today, Class 11 have looked into the process of fossilisation. We learned that happens overtime, after animals decompose, layers of sediment rises over the bones and these eventually turn into rock. We know that they are rare to find, too. We even made our own fossils, which we will come back to tomorrow!
Today, Class 11 have been building even more knowledge about rocks. We tested the different types of rocks and the durability, permeability and many other aspects of them. We loved getting hands on and had a great time using sand paper and pipette’s.
Today, Class 11 researched how rocks are formed. They created anchor charts to then complete an exit ticket, so that they could explain how rocks are formed, such as sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks.
Class 11 have been working really hard to create some waves for our classroom displays, this morning with Miss O’Neill. I am so pleased with the amount of fun the children had and how immersed our classroom has become now, due to their beautiful work!
Moving on from our Atlas work, we have been using digital technologies and maps to look within our local area. We found out that the River Don runs through Thorne at the other side of the motorway through a place called Waterside and that we have a Canal which is called the Stainforth and Keadby Canal. We Then used a river map of the UK to be able to locate, place and label some of them onto our own blank maps!
Class 11 loved being able to use the atlases to be able to help their learning. They were able to use the atlas to help locate some of the tallest mountains on the different continents.
Class 11 have been working on creating posters to show off their knowledge of the earth and its layers. Moe specifically, they have researched the different types of soils that make up the Earth. We looked into bedrock, parent material, subsoil, topsoil and the final organic layer. The layers were researched through the use of iPads which ensured we could get the really strong knowledge!
