🎃🍁🍂Happy half term 🎃🍁🍂

At Green Top we are sad that family learning can’t take place as it would usually in our classrooms and therefore we have pledged to have a family learning activity each half term for the whole school community to get involved with.

The first family learning challenge will be a ‘Carve or Decorate your own pumpkin’ competition. This competition will be judged on 31st October. There can be one entry per child and all entries must be entered by a photograph sent to [email protected] by the 12pm Tuesday 27th October. As photographs are entered they will be blogged on the website for all to see. All students who enter will receive a ‘treat’ on their return to school on 2nd November.

In addition one winner will be selected from each phase. Winners will be announced on October 31st.

An Autumn Celebration to end Year 1’s First Half-Term!

Year One have had a brilliant Autumn inspired day to end our first half-term of the year!

We have enjoyed discussing seasonal change and thinking about what is so special about Autumn, making links to the celebration of harvest, weather and colour. We also had the chance to decorate (and eat!) our own biscuits as a special treat… Yum yum!

Our focus was to learn about the work of Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama who puts dots everywhere… even on pumpkins! We used her work to inspire some of our own beautiful work which you can check out below and in our video. Enjoy!

We hope you all have a fabulous half-term and will look forward to seeing you all in two weeks time.

Conversation Starter

Do you ever ask your child what they’ve been learning this week only to get told ‘nothing’ or ‘I can’t remember’.

To try and help with this, each year group will share a specific question each week about that weeks learning to try and help get the conversation going.

Let us know if it’s useful and helps children talk about their learning.

Phonics lessons online

Parents of children in F2, Y1 and Y2 may want to explore this website https://lettersandsounds.org.uk/for-home/overview. This website provides pre recorded phonics lessons which can be used to support your children with the phonics screening check which typically takes place in Y1 during the Summer term.  This year our Y2 student are expected to take this phonics check during the second half term.

What a great week in class 5!

A huge well done to Ellie- Mai for being our learning legend in class 5 today. she worked really hard in English writing a sentence about our new class text Emma Jane’s Aeroplane. She used her phonics to sound her words out and was using the image from the book to support her ideas. A great piece of work Ellie- Mai, keep it up.

I am blown away at the learning happening in class 5 this week, we have got so much done! You should all be proud of what you have achieved, we’ve taken on maths, phonics, English and expedition. Your recall skills to link your learning to the rubric in our end of the day crew circles is showing how reflective you really are becoming and it is amazing to see. keep up the good work everyone and enjoy your days off. I cant wait to see what you can achieve next week.

Numicon counting

Class 5 have been fantastic at counting the numicon today and ordering them from 1 to 10. We even had a go at writing the numbers under the numicon. Everyone worked so well and I was blown away at how we were coaching our peers who found it a little bit tricky.

Keep up the good work class 5 you are making me feel so proud to be your teacher!

Thank you

Our classroom is looking a little bit more exciting now we’ve added some of our fabulous arts and crafts to it.

Learning legend

A huge shout out to Isobel for being our learning legend today. She was a connecting Connie in maths this morning. She wrote all numbers from 0-10 correctly and had a go at sounding the number out to write it in words, well done Isobel!
