Year 3/4 Reading at Home!

We have kickstarted our new ‘reading at home’ scheme for the Year 3/4 children! Every child in Y3/4 should have brought home their books yesterday ready to read at home! The children will have also fetched a reading at home challenge sheet so that they can earn HoWLs points and work their way up to becoming an ‘excellent home reader’!

Please ensure that the children bring their reading books and packs back daily even if they haven’t finished the book yet. We will be checking this in crew in a morning as it will help us to keep track of where the books are and how often the children are reading.

Once the children have finished their book, they can quiz using the Accelerated Reader programme either at home or at school!

Year 5/6 – this will be launching for you soon!

Below is a copy of the reading log which children should have fetched home with them.

class 9 reading comprehension

Class 9 worked really hard today to answer questions about a familiar text that they know…The 3 Little Pigs!

They worked together to find the evidence in the text.

I am so proud of how hard they are working at the moment. Keep it up superstars!

Lest We Forget: How Does War Change Lives?

As part of Year 3/4s expedition, every child placed a poppy into the wreath which was then laid at Thorne Park in the Remembrance Day service.

I saw lots of our children involved in the service too so well done to all those involved! A special thank you to Naomi who laid the wreath for us!

Odd socks day in class 7

We wore our odd socks today with pride to show that we understand it is ok to be different and to mark the beginning of Anti-Bullying Week in class 7. Watch this space for more photographs in the coming days as we continue to raise awareness of this very important issue.

Accelerated Reader Drop in!

Reminder that there is an Accelerated Reader drop in for KS2 parents on Thursday 17th November 3pm-4pm in the school hall. Please pop along if you want to learn more about AR and how it works.

Y6 SPaG site to support home learning

Please find a link below to a SPaG revision website that I have created to support the children in developing their knowledge of grammar, punctuation and spelling rules. This knowledge is tested on the Year 6 SPaG papers.

Here is the link: https://sites.google.com/greentopschool.org/year-6-spag-revision/home

I hope you find it useful and it supports any learning at home. I will continue to add to it throughout the year and set homework linked to areas we need to focus on.

Thank you

Mrs Jackson
