Year 4: More Murton Park!

What a fantastic day we had at Murton Park today! We greeted Marcus in Latin and then had a tour around a Roman fort before getting dressed in our Roman tunics!

We spent the morning practising our Roman writing and maths skills and also signed a 25 year contract for the Roman army! We also enjoyed making Roman pots which we were able to fetch home.

After lunch in the barracks, we learned more about the armour and weapons that the Romans used. We then practised some military drills with our spear and shield. We also practised javelin throwing and learnt how the army would use a Gladius for fighting! The shields were so heavy!

Finally, to end a busy day we practised the Testudo! After all our hard work, we were paid our wages at the ceremony and were also able to fetch our wages home with us!

Reception- Hooking into phonics!

This week the children have been practicing hearing their first set of phonemes in words s/a/t/p, fast blending the phonemes to say words and at breaking down the phonemes in a word!

We have been writing the grapheme in lots of different ways to become more confident and remember how to form the graphemes correctly!

Year 4 – Murton Park

What a fantastic day the children have had at Murton Park! We started the day with introductions before making our way to the Roman fort and getting into our Roman tunics!

We then practised some military drills with our spear and shield before moving on to the sword and javelin. We practised throwing the javelin like a Roman soldier and learnt how the Roman army would fight their enemies using their Gladius!

Lunch time back in the barracks!

In the afternoon, we got to see some real Roman weapons before working hard crafting Roman pottery. We also filled out our applications to join the Roman army using more traditional Roman lettering and numerals! What a fantastic day it has been!

Class 12: Rounding to 10

Last week in maths, we started to look at rounding to the nearest 10. The children made a great start with rounding whilst trying to complete the loop card activity. We’ll done to Carter, Isaac and Eoghan who were the first group to finish!

Crew Ambler – Geography

This afternoon, we have been researching all about physical features in Brazil and comparing them to the physical features here in the UK. I was very impressed to see the children describing physical features such as biomes, rivers, climate and vegetation from previous learning in our geography case study. Well done Crew Ambler!
