Year 6 – Sharing our own stories

After a morning of editing and improving our stories, we enjoyed sharing them in small story-telling groups. It was lovely to see the courage that everyone showed at reading their own story out loud for others to listen to, as well as the compassion and respect the children showed each other when listening.

Well done Year 6 – we are so proud of you all! x

Crew Jackson – Active spelling

In year 6, we continue to work on the spelling pattern of adding able, able, ably, ably to the end of words. Yesterday we kept ourselves active by playing a game of ‘Boom boom clap’. It was great fun but also it was fabulous to see the children recalling the correct spelling patterns.

Class 8 fantastic collaboration

We introduced our new text today called Let the children March! The children were very mature about the issues in the book and we discussed segregation and civil rights in great detail. I was very impressed with them and how compassionate they were towards people who were treated differently to others. They then went into groups to answer questions about the text and discuss their thoughts on different parts. It was a great lesson!

Reading Week!

Our annual reading week is coming up WC 6th October and we can’t wait to celebrate!

Throughout the week, our reading ambassadors will be helping us to celebrate reading in lots of fun ways! The ambassadors will be hosting the official launch event for our brand new library as well as a reading drop in event.

Other things happening throughout the week:

We will be hosting book sales where all books will be 50p

We will also be running our renowned ‘Crack the Code’ competition where children can attempt to crack the code to our safe full of prizes! This will also be 50p per go!

Crew Jackson – active learning in English

Today in our English lesson we ensured we kept ourselves active as this not only helped us stay engaged but meant we had opportunities to move around the room and work collaboratively with others. In spelling we went on a treasure hunt around the room to read the words and select the correct missing word for each sentence. After we completed our story plans, we danced around the room to music and when the music stopped we shared our ideas and told our story verbally to a new partner. Some were more willing dancers than others!

Well done everyone – great learning!

Class Spetch – We love reading!

Yesterday in our reading lesson, we investigated the meaning of some of the tricky vocabulary in this weeks text. We had a little bit of word bingo to spot some of the words and then practiced reading around the word to see if we could predict what the words meant. It was lovely to see lots of great collaboration around the classroom when the children independently answered their vocabulary questions! Well done everyone!

Crew Jackson – peer critique

This morning in English we applied our knowledge of speech punctuation and how to use dialogue to show character and action. The children produced some excellent short extracts linked to our class text which were proved further through the use of peer critique. Well done guys – I am excited to plan and write our chapters next week.
