Reception Phonics

This week we have been learning the following phonemes g,o,c,k. The sounds will be sent out for the children to be practising to recognise the phoneme, say the phoneme and then write the grapheme.

The children are really starting to learn and retain those sounds but will need support to blend those sounds together. Have a go at the green words and the more they hear those sounds being blended the easier it will become.

Thanks

Class 6’s visit to 1666

Class 6 took a huge step back in time today with our Great Fire of London workshop. We were visited by Thomas Farriner and Samuel Pepys who gave us first hand information about the tragic event and who were both mightily impressed by the knowledge that the children were able to share. We also demonstrated our dramatic talents as the children became the wind, flames, houses and fire fighting citizens in ’10 second freeze frame’ activities. We had an amazing time!

I was very proud of the behaviour of ALL the KS1 children today and our visitor commented on the beautifully calm atmosphere as she moved through our school.

Well done everyone!

Class 10 Shoutouts!

A big well done to Azrael on his entry to our Roald Dahl library poster competition … it looks fabulous! Don’t forget that if you want to enter as well then the deadline is TOMORROW so get busy creating tonight and pass your entry to me in the morning for a chance to win and see your poster up in our new library 🙂

And… a very special shoutout goes to Esmai, who has been showing great integrity today! Not only did she receive lots of HoWL points from Mr Kershaw for her work in his group but she has also been reminding everyone that they should be following our school rules and only bringing in water in their water bottles – not juice! She even noticed that her own water bottle had juice in it and decided against drinking this – opting for water instead, even though she doesn’t really like it that much. As Esmai says … “I need to drink the water because I know it is good for me and my body”. Keep up the great attitude and integrity, Esmai – we are super proud of you!!

Year 3 – Sporting Superstars!

Today, Year 3 enjoyed another fabulous football PE session with Coach Morgan from Activ8. He was super impressed with everyone’s efforts but there were a few children who really stood out and received a postcard for great listening and sportsmanship – top job, everyone – well done!

Class 7 Time Travellers!

Today, Class 7 had 2 special visitors. One was Thomas Fariner telling us about how and why the Great Fire of London started. The second was Samuel Pepys telling us about what he had written in his diary during this great, historical event. Both let us make freeze frames from the event and we even sang nursery rhymes as well. We loved it!

Crew Knowles – RE

This week in RE, we looked at building background information on the different forms of the Hindu god. We learned about Ganesha, Lakshmi and Vishnu to name just a few. We also managed to get in some active learning by moving around the classroom to collect the information!

Crew Jackson – Shout out for home learning

Last night, I was blown away when Layla’s Dad shared these photos with me. A massive shout out for some amazing home learning linked to our expedition on rainforests. Layla has spent time at home this week building an Amazon Rainforest hut and I think the children in our class text ‘The Explorer’ would welcome this as a new home to stay in. Thank you for bringing it in to share with our crew – it looks fabulous on display in our classroom.
