Today, Crew Mumby did an incredible job of making a fast-food favourite into a healthier option by the ingredients we used. We started by mixing an egg with 5% fat steak mince before seasoning with garlic and oregano. Once this was mixed together thoroughly, the children separated them into sensible portion sizes before putting them in the burger press to create an authentic burger shape and size. After that, we utilised the beautiful weather and cooked our burgers in the XP outdoors area, kindly assisted by Mr Kershaw. I have tasked the children to make the burgers at home the next time you decide to have a BBQ!
Year 5 look forward to XP outdoors every week and last Thursday was no different! They absolutely loved collecting sticks to create frames and learnt knots that would help them secure them together. Check out the fab photos below!
We had another lovely community crew meeting this week celebrating all of our successes! A huge shout out to our attendance winners our and Accelerated Reader winners this week – well done!
Another special shout out for our HoWL point winners this week who have worked hard, being kind and got smart with their learning!
Let’s not forget our Out of this World winners who have all received the yellow t-shirt for their exceptional learning this week! Absolute super stars! I wonder who will get it next week!
And finally we have our Star Readers! Here are just two of our well deserving reading stars but rest assured there were many more!
Yesterday in expedition Y5 looked at the major food groups and researched why they are important for a balanced diet and the impact food has on our health. The children worked collaboratively to produce a range of anchor diets about the major food groups. Well done Crew Ambler & Crew Mumby.
Last week I had the pleasure of taking Y5&6 to XP to take part in the first evert XP Trust football competition. The children played some outstanding football and it was great to see everyone enjoying themselves and taking part. Well done to Y6 who were the overall winners! Our next event will be Y5&6 Rounders in a few weeks time.
This is why Expedition is fundamental to our curriculum. Last term we embarked on an expedition focused on climate emergency linked to the world’s rainforests and deforestation. As part of our expedition the children in Y5/6 crafted handmade frames and created artwork to put in them. We held a beautiful celebration of learning where frames could be purchased for a small donation. We raised a magnificent £250 and made a contribution to the World Wildlife Fund, today our ‘adopt a Giant Panda’ pack arrived and the children were thrilled with our new toy panda mascot! It was lovely to see that their efforts in work has had a real-life impact. Great work guys!
Wow! Year 5/6 had such a lovely Family Learning event this afternoon! They were each able to choose an activity to participate in and each activity linked to our current expedition about looking after our minds and bodies.
The activities on offer were Zumba, football rounders, tag rugby, bench ball, outdoor cooking and making healthy meals!
It looked like all the children and adults were having lots of fun and it was great to see the adult participation. Thank you to all that attended and we hope you enjoyed it!
This afternoon in Y5/6 Family Learning the children took part in different activities linked to our expedition. I enjoyed hosting a Ready Steady Cook challenge and we had a fantastic time creating healthy and creative dishes. Well done everyone – I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
