In this morning’s crew session, we learned all about how physical activity can actually help our minds to feel fitter and healthier too. To put this into practice, we all completed a good morning jog by running a few laps around the 3G pitch and I think the smiles speak for themselves!
Year 5 Spelling Practice
Here are this week’s spellings for you to practise at home:
Crew Dutton – Team Building Games in the Sunshine
Last Friday, part of Crew Dutton were out for bikeability in the sun. To keep ourselves busy back in class, the rest of us enjoyed some crew games out on the playground. Children enjoyed playing lava and trying their best to find safe passage for all their team across the molten floor – unfortunately only a few survived … just!
Y5 – Kixx in the Sun
This afternoon, Year 5 have enjoyed another fun-filled session with Coach Kyle from Kixx Doncaster. Coach Kyle put them through their paces with some attacking and defending drills before the children enjoyed a game on the field. Well done everyone – a great session!
Class 15 – Amazing HoWLs
Last week, Class 15 celebrated yet another week at the top of the UKS2 HoWLs leaderboard. To celebrate, we enjoyed some delicious ice-lollies and an extra playtime in the sun. Well done everyone – keep it up and letβs see if we can make it a hat-trick by winning again on Monday!
Class 15 – Mr Stink Vocabulary Work
In Year 5, we are having fun developing our reading skills by exploring the fantastic (if a little smelly!) story, Mr Stink. At the start of this week, while most of our crew were out for bikeability, we spent some time finding out about the new words we could find in our text. We used our reading around the text to make a sensible prediction about what the new word might mean and then we checked this by using a dictionary. Why not check in with us and find out what these words – such as: crestfallen, disdain, interject, ponder and loiter – mean.
Class 15 – We LOVE Ancient Egypt!
Class 15 have been really enjoying learning all about the Ancient Egyptians. Last week, we learned about their Journey to the Afterlife – where only those light of heart would make it to the Field of Reeds. Check out some of our comic strips depicting this perilous journey below:
Year 5 Bikeability Group 1
Yesterday saw our first group of bikeability riders complete their course. Well done everybody, we have heard that there was some fantastic behaviour and safety skills on display.
CLASS 15 – Egyptian Excellence
Class 15 and the rest of Year 5 have all enjoyed an amazing Egyptian-themed day. We started by enjoying a very informative presentation by the ladies from Heritage Doncaster who were blown away, not only by our beautiful behaviour but our fantastic prior-knowledge too! To say I was super proud would be an understatement so a huge well done to everybody. Then we took part in a number of different exploratory activities that allowed us to get hands-on with some very realistic replica artefacts.
The rest of our morning was spent digesting all of our new learning with some chilled Ancient Egyptian music and artwork. In the afternoon, we reflected on our workshop experience before heading to the hall for a whole year group fun session. We danced like an Egyptian, played musical Egyptian statues and squeezed in a game of Egyptian-themed corners. To end the day, we made links with the healthy eating theme of our expedition and enjoyed a fruit kebab reward … very YUMMY MUMMY!
A huge shout out to all of the children – I am so proud of you all and thank you for such an enjoyable day! I would also like to say a big thank you for those who could dress up – you all looked fantastic :). Please keep your costumes safe as we will ask you to use them again for our final product and celebration events at the end of the term.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and canβt wait to see how much more learning lies in store for us all next week.

Class 15βs very questionable jam sandwiches!
In English, Year 5 have been learning all about the importance of clear and precise instruction writing. Unfortunately this had to come at the expense of some very undesirable-looking jam sandwiches β¦ check out our pictures below. Fortunately, the children were able to edit their instructions enough to enjoy a much more normal jam sandwich – or two! Itβs amazing how quickly we can learn when a tasty treat is involved π
