Music Learning In Cocoon I

This week we have been learning about pitch, melody, echo and beat.  First we listened and learnt a song about Roman Signals, then we studied the song in more detail and established that each verse line worked on 8 beats and the interlude worked on 7.  So from here, we have had ago at creating our own verse of a song!

During the rest of the week we will create a class song linked to our Roman expedition and share with you!

The children have impressed me so much with this task and their understanding and creativity has been wonderful!  Well done guys!

Today’s learning

Who said we can’t still work collaboratively while social distancing in a classroom! Smashed it today with some fantastic mosaics of some Roman Gods.

We enlarged the pictures to A3 and cut them into 2 halves so the children had to communicate their colours and patterns in order for the 2 halves of the mosaic to match. And I must say they did a brilliant job – so happy at how well they turned out!

Learning legends today …

Kristan …. For his amazing stick-ability attitude in our catapult lesson and producing a brilliant Roman catapult all on his own!

Brilliant job 👏

Also we have Tilly for her fabulous and extremely well presented French learning today! Mrs Hardman was also very impressed with all her hard work after we sent her a picture of it.  What a Can do Colin you were today Tilly!

Today in #crewCoon I

So today was a bit dull and rainy outside however we have still done lots of learning and had fun.

We’ve been looking at Roman catapults and how they were back in the day, then using lolly sticks and elastic bands we had ago at making our very own!  Very tricky business twisting elastic bands around lots of sticks so we all had to be a stick-ability Stan to get the job done!

We have also, including me, been learning so french today! I’ve never taught french before so actually some of them ended up teaching me some bits and bobs to help us complete our learning!

Another amazing day for the new Cocoon I!!

I am so lucky to be working this such a lovely little group of children! They have had another great day today using Chromebooks.  We were able to finish off our music learning from yesterday and then  use our knowledge to build a one page information site based on their chosen Roman instrument. After that, we got stuck into some coding and game making on Scratch – they have all made a wonderful, working chase game with added sounds and scoring!

I’m so proud of how hard they have worked on their games and how they all were curious Cleo’s and stick-ability Stans.

I feel however overall Brendan has to be our learning legend today as he went even further by adding in text and even a background change in his game as well as supporting and guiding a friend in class on how to ‘de-bugg’ a problem he was facing. Grate job Brendan.

Here is a snap shot of their learning today.

Fabulous first day back!

We all started the day a little uncertain but by the end we all left happy and smiling 😊. I’m so pleased and proud at how well my little crew have dealt with today and even more please with the amazing work they have produced! Massive well done!

We’ve looked at our new school norms and created our own posters, compared some music over time and looked into Roman instruments in more detail! Great job, I am going to award you all the learning legends! What can do Colin’s we have had today!
