Special Achievement!

Today we had a super special achievement in Class 3! Charlie has found it hard to use his voice in school, especially with the adults, but today he read me a book! He didnt stop there, he also read to Mrs Salter too. We are super proud of you Charlie as we know this is a big achievement for you and we are all so proud of you.

This week we have been working on our self-confidence and self-esteem as part of our second Case Study and what a wonderful example you have set to your peers.

We decided to award Charlie an ‘Out of this World’ to mark this special occasion, but also because of his consistently positive attitude and hard work so far this term.

Well Done Charlie!

Sound Therapy

As part of our expedition work the children in EYFS enjoyed a sound therapy session with Karen White from Phoenix Therapy, Thorne. The children really enjoyed how to control their breathing and how they can control their own emotions. They also enjoyed sending all the worries into the thunder tin and listening to the gong and how loud it could be. We listened carefully to where we could feel the sounds in our bodies. Finally we relaxed and listened to the wonderful sounds Karen could make with all her equipment. We will definitely be continuing to use the techniques Karen showed us. We have already noticed a difference with how the children are able to use the breathing to calm their minds.

How can music help us to feel different emotions?

In expedition this week we are thinking about how sounds can make us feel different emotions. We have listened to different pieces of music and talked about how they make us feel – some made us feel relaxed, excited and tired!

Next we looked at the work of Wassily Kandinsky and how he used shapes, colours and emotions in his work. We chose our favourite piece of music and tried some artwork of our own. It was very fun and helped us to feel relaxed. We would love to do this activity again!

How can exercise help our mind and body?

This week we have really enjoyed exploring the effects exercise has on our mind and body. We have tried some yoga moves and a Joe Wicks workout! We have also been practising a new skill to see what our Fantastic Elastic brains can really do when we keep trying something new. In class 3 lots of the children have been interested in cartwheels so we chose this as our class skill. We are making lots of progress already and will update you at the end of the week with our progress!

Todays learning legend was Ethan. On day 1 Ethan was a little scared to join in but today he got stuck straight in and joined in with our cartwheel skill drills. We were super proud of him for demonstrating confidence and showing everyone what our new expedition case study is really about – developing our confidence and self esteem! Well done Ethan.

Expedition

This week in expedition we have continued to focus on our first Case Study ‘Exploring media and materials’. Mrs Hay’s brother Josh taught us how to weave and Mrs Wallace planned some mindfulness art activities for us to try to help us to feel happy and relaxed!

Look at our wonderful learning!

We have been having so much fun with our new expedition. We have been architects and builders and have made lots of different structures out of lots of different materials. We also enjoyed a visit form Gwynn Ap Harry who told us all about his house and the XP school buildings. The children have been really inspired by his visit.

Here are some photographs of our work.

Good Luck Miss Vaughan

In Reception we decided to turn Funky Friday time into a mini Baby Shower to celebrate Miss Vaughan’s last day. We played put the dummy on the baby and guess the smell! It looked disgusting but the smells were delicious! Chocolate and Butterscotch Angel Delight were our favourites. We also had party dancing and party food! We would like to wish Miss Vaughan a very happy maternity leave. She will be greatly missed by all the adults and children in EYFS but she has promised to do a hangout when her beautiful baby girl has arrived!
