The children in F2 had an awesome trip to Austerfield today. Despite the wind, rain and even the little bit of snow we all had an amazing time. The children got the chance to do lots of team activities based around the stories of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and ‘The Gingerbread Man’. They worked as teams to build the Three Pigs houses, used problem solving skills to get the Gingerbread Man down the river without getting him wet and even got the chance to decorate and eat their own Gingerbread Men. A big Thank you to the parents that offered their time to help us on our trip today, you make these lovely experiences possible.
We hope you’ve had a lovely week back so far and are looking forward to our visit to Austerfield study centre tomorrow.
Please can all children arrive at the usual time so that we can register everyone and be on the coaches ready to leave promptly. All children will need to bring a packed lunch with them, unless they have asked for one to be provided by school. The coach will leave Austerfield by 2.30pm to make sure we are back in time for the end of the school day.
Please could we ask that all children dress appropriately for the outdoor weather… the forecast is looking better as we move through the day tomorrow and we’re hoping it stays that way!
If you have any questions or queries please email Miss Carter @. [email protected]
Looking forward to seeing you all in the morning!
A huge thank you to the parents that came to join us today for our family learning afternoon. We set a ‘scrapheap’ style challenge where we asked children and their adults to make buildings and features from our local area. The models produced were amazing and the children had so much fun making them with you. We had a lovely range of models from churches, supermarkets, homes, parks, Green top school and many more. Please see the gallery below of our lovely afternoon.
Before the half term break we used aerial photographs of Thorne to identify the features of our local community. The children were experts at identifying places in their local area. For the next two weeks we will continue discussing key places in our community and how these places serve the people living in Thorne.
Our key Literacy text for the next two weeks is the story of Hansel and Gretel. Before the half term break we hooked the children into our new text by following a trail. The trail led to some sweets and the story for us to read!
Wow what a fabulous first day back at school to hook us back into our learning. Today we had a fantastic music workshop with local musician Geoff Hewitt. Geoff told the children all about how sounds are made. The children then made their own junk model instruments and played them in our very own band. We had lots of fun singing songs and playing our instruments. Thank you Geoff for inspiring our young musicians!
If you would like to check out some of Geoff’s own work then head over to his instagram page @geoffsteabreak where you can get a copy of his debut album for free!

We will be modelling buildings and features from our local area. Please bring any junk materials you have at home to help us with our challenge e.g. items from your recycling, boxes, material, astroturf cut-offs, pieces of wood etc. We will be seeing what we can create using all the things we collect. We hope that you can join us for an afternoon of fun!
Huge congratulations to all children who were awarded as being ‘out of this world’ last half term. Here are some more of our beautiful photographs of the children being proud to wear yellow!
