KS1 Reading Challenge

This week we will be reviewing our progress so far on our school reading challenge. Each classroom has a display where children can track their progress towards their next milestone. Children also have a 100 square in their reading diaries so that you can follow along with their progress at home. Staff will cross out a number each time a child has read at home.

Children can read their reading books, books from home, comics, magazines or phonics homework sheets. Any reading is great reading! Each time your child reads at home this will count as 1 read. Please write each read in your child’s reading diary so staff can check off the numbers and track children’s progress.

Our current Leader in KS1 leader has read over 170 times this school year!!!

Here are the milestones your child is aiming for and our new certificates for each milestone:

I wonder if anyone will receive the Platinum award by the end of the school year?

Year 1 Phonics

The children in Year 1 have been continuing to work hard on their phonics knowledge this term. In our phonics lesson each day we practice reading and writing words and sentences using our phonics knowledge. We also practise our new skills through our Shared Reading sessions.

Here are the graphemes we have been learning:

We have noticed lots of improvement in the children’s confidence to read with many children now reading fluently and with great expression. Here are the Shared Reading books we have been reading if you would like to have a go at home:

KS1 Community Crew Meeting

WOW what a brilliant first community crew meeting of the Summer term! We have had some awesome stewardship shoutouts, amazing HOWL point winners, even some reading certificates earned too. Most importantly, we have had some hard working Out Of This World winners too!

These young people have been working so hard to be kind, work hard AND get smart and we are all so proud of them!

Finally, a HUGE shoutout to Crew Cooper for getting 100% attendance this last week too, they will get to display Paddington the Attendance bear proudly in their crew room!

Y1/2 outdoor art club

For the first time this term the new outdoor art club has had an amazing start. We took ourselves out onto the playground and practised creating patterns by rubbing different materials. We used concrete, wood, rubber, grass, brick and loads of different areas of the playground to find some awesome patterns. Then when we had finished we even discussed our favourite patterns and wondered what we could do with them next week…

Reuben loved it that much he went straight home and did some more in his own garden! I would love to see more pictures if anyone else has had a go at home 😀 Well done everyone -Miss Good

Y1 homework

Good evening everyone. Today we have sent home a pack of activities for your children to complete. The phonics sounds and spellings will be sent weekly as usual but we have also included an expedition linked sheet with activities that could be worked on over the next term. Any questions please ask myself or Miss Schon.

Enjoy!

National Skipping Week

This week is National Skipping week and as a school we will be taking part to see how many jumps we can do. Each day, the children will get the opportunity to take part and count how many jumps they can do and we will create a school total each day. Watch this video to find out more.

Want to take part at home?

School council will be getting involved to see who can skip or jump in the most unusual places. All you need to do to get involved is take a picture or video of you jumping or skipping somewhere unusual and send it into school. The deadline for entries is Tuesday 2nd May. Winners will be announced on Friday 5th May.

Happy skipping!

Sport photos! ⚽️🏉

Mr Ambler and myself are creating a PE display for school. In this display, we want to celebrate our sporting successes across school whether it is a tournament, PE clubs or outside teams.

Please pass them onto your teacher and we will add these as part of our celebration 😀

Thanks,

Mr Gerrard and Mr Ambler 😆
