Flying start to Autumn 2

What a fabulous start to the new half term today. Miss Good and I re-hooked the children into our class text Matilda by dressing as Miss Honey and Miss Trunchbull. The children practised their speaking and listening skills by thinking up some fabulous questions to ask their ‘new’ teachers and then used opposite adjective matching activities to link what they know about the characters to their literacy learning.

A huge well done to Shae and Deacon for becoming the first postcard winners in class 6 for their fabulous engagement with their tasks today.

Keep it up my superstars!

Reading Champion in class 6

To highlight the importance of regular reading practise and to encourage reading for pleasure, key stage 1 have begun to award a Reading Champion trophy to the child who reads the most books weekly in each class. Massive congratulations to the children who received the trophy this week. Our own champion was Deacon, who lead the way with a huge 12 books read. Who will be our next Champion?

Remember, you can record all of your reading in your yellow journal, not just school books.

Pumpkin decorating in Crew Rodgers

If you are visiting the Frenchgate Centre in Doncaster over half-term be sure to look out for the pumpkins decorated by our fabulous children here at Green Top. Each crew decorated their own pumpkin and below is the one done by crew Rodgers. Each of the children added a bat, a spider or a ghost to the pumpkin and we are very proud of our efforts.

Have a great half-term everyone.

KS1 phase assembly winners

KS1 held their first phase assembly in the hall this morning, in 18 months! What a pleasure it was to see your smiling faces altogether again! Check out the gallery of photographs below for our certificate winners. We also presented some Reading Champion awards for the children who have read the most books from their reading packs and Paddington the attendance bear was very happy to be spending the next week with the crew who had the most children in school every day…..well done CrewDutton.

Keep up the good work guys!

Certificate winners in Crew Rodgers

A huge well done to Reeva, Savannah and Junior who won certificates today in our phase assembly for demonstrating fabulous learning attitudes in our Work Hard, Be Kind and Get Smart HoWLs respectively.

Also massive congratulations to Nathaniel who was our overall HoWL point winner this week.

So proud of you guys!

Class 6 Family Learning.

Class 6 would like to invite you to join us for a family learning event on Tuesday 2nd November …

As you know, we have been learning all about being superheroes in our local community and about how we can make a difference to the world around us. With this in mind, we would like you to join us in a litter picking event in the Thorne community when we return to school after half-term.

If you would like to join us, please arrive at school on 2nd November at 1.30pm and we aim to return to school by 2.30pm ready for hometime. A text will be sent by school as a reminder.

We look forward to seeing you then,

Miss Rodgers, Miss Wilkins and Mr Wright

Adjective excellence

Class 6 have had a great morning reading and acting out adjectives for their partners to guess, then using some of these to write a character description for Miss Honey from our core text Matilda. Everyone worked beautifully but we were particularly impressed by Haran and Florence who worked with growing independence on their task.

Great job guys.
