Collaborative Octo-craft

Class 6 worked in teams today to make paper chain tentacles for an octopus. They had to ensure that they made their tentacles the same length so they had to decide on the number of links in each chain and keep adding more until they matched

I was so proud of how they persevered with their task, even when they found it tricky.

They certainly followed our class motto – keep on trying, never give up, you’ll get there in the end.

Great job guys. I can’t wait to see them on display!

Sparkling into our new expedition!

We had a fabulous first day back today as we began our immersion into our new expedition, ‘How will what I do today impact the world tomorrow?’ by thinking about the animals that live in our oceans. The children created these amazing sparkly sea creatures to begin to decorate our classroom and corridors. Great job guys.

Christmas Competition Winners!

Well done to Abbie and Damion for winning our two Christmas competitions! The winning elf name was ‘Cinnamon’ and the total number of candy canes was 52. We managed to raise a fantastic total to go towards our Year 6 leavers fund so thank you for all of your donations.

Recycled materials

In January, key stage 1 will be making sculptures using recycled materials. If over Christmas you have any ring pulls from cans, beer bottle tops, plastic bottles, plastic bottle tops or any shiny quality street wrappers then please can you save them and bring them in to us when we return to school. It would be much appreciated!

Thank you,

Mrs Shaw and the key stage 1 crew x

Christmas Jumper Day: Save the Children 🎄🎅🏻

Last Friday, children were encouraged to wear a Christmas jumper and donate money to fundraise for the ‘Save the Children’ charity. As a school, we managed to raise an incredible £286 which will go towards helping many different families this Christmas. Thank you for the generosity of all who donated money!

Children in Need Competition: Winners!

Well done to our four winners in the Children in Need competition. Your entries were amazing!

Christmas Competition!

Tomorrow, members of the school council will be going around school selling entries for our two Christmas competitions: ‘Guess the name of the elf’ and ‘Guess the number of candy canes.’ Entries cost 50p each and the winner will win either an elf teddy or the box of candy canes.

We will also be selling packets of ‘Reindeer Food’ for 50p each. Please send any money in tomorrow and throughout the week if you are wanting to enter the competition. Winners will be announced on Friday morning. Thank you.

Awesome Reading Assessments

The children in class 6 have blown us away over the past couple of weeks with their fabulous reading assessments. They have completed end of term quizzes, common exception word and suffix word lists and phonics checks galore to help me assess their progress and I couldn’t be more proud of how they have done. As I am forever telling the children, to read early and well is one of the most important skills they can develop and they certainly seem to have taken this advice to heart.

Awesome job!

Children in Need: Competition Winners
