A huge thank you to Mrs Clay and Miss Cooper for helping us to make our pancakes yesterday. They were yummy!
Year 1 split into crews today to participate in a carousel of food preparation skills. In Miss Rodgers’ classroom we experimented with peeling different kinds of fruit and vegetables including cucumbers, apples and carrots. In Miss Schon’s room we used box graters to grate the above ingredients. Finally in Miss Cooper’s crew room we used special knives and learned how to safely chop bananas, peppers and tomatoes using the bridge and claw method. Well done everyone!
This afternoon, Year 1 students had an exciting XP Outdoor session as they learned the skill of fire lighting using flint and steel!
We discovered how sparks are made by striking flint against steel. With patience, focus, and plenty of determination, they practiced creating tiny sparks—watching in amazement as they ignited cotton wool to start a very small fire.
Not only was it fun but also a fantastic way to learn about fire safety, resilience, and the behind the scenes of fire making. The children worked together, encouraging each other and celebrating every successful spark. Well Done Year 1!!!
In KS1 Lunch Club we have been making thank you cards to show gratitude. We had a beautiful lunch club today and it was so lovely talking to the children about who they were making their cards for and seeing their lovely designs!
This week Miss Cooper’s group have been learning /ur/ ‘Purple turtle’.
Miss Rodgers phonics group have been continuing to learn the ‘split digraph’ sounds. This week they have been learning /i-e/ – In a while crocodile. Keep practising those red words ready for our upcoming assessment week!
I have seen some beautiful reading this week. The children’s confidence is growing week on week and it is so lovely to see. The children are also becoming much more confident with their sentence writing. Now we are working to secure our spelling skills. Keep it up – I am so proud of you.
In addition to this the children have also been doing some extra phonics lessons in the afternoons. This week and next week we will be learning the split digraph sounds like Miss Rodger’s and Mrs Clay’s group. So far we have learned /a-e/, /e-e/ and /i-e/. I wonder if you can read words for the sheets below?
Crew Rodgers spent 10 minutes of their crew time this morning working towards their sponsored reading minutes. It was lovely to see how engaged they were with their reading and they loved discussing the stories with each other too. A great start to the week!
This half term Year 1 are very lucky to have an extra PE session every Friday with a specialist PE coach. Please ensure children bring their PE kits on Thursdays AND Fridays for the rest of this term.
Thank you
