Y1’s awesome celebration of learning

What an amazing afternoon we had today celebrating the end of our final expedition with our families and carers. Our school hall was packed out with family members who came to listen to the children present their life journey so far, and to marvel at the children’s writing skills as they shared their very own space themed books. The children have worked long and hard on producing the stories, illustrations and front covers. What lovely keepsakes to cherish and, in years to come, look back with fond memories of their time in year 1. We sure will miss you all!

We would also like to give a huge shout out to the staff that helped us serve refreshments today and to Mrs Clay, Miss Cooper, Mrs Roe and Faith, and everyone else who helped to edit, draft, draw, colour, cut, stick and assemble the books. It was a mammoth task but I’m sure you will agree, totally worth it.

Finally to all parents and carers who took the time to attend our celebration today. Events like these could not go ahead without your support and for this we send out a massive thank you!

Look out J. K. Rowling! Year one are coming to get you!

Get Involved In Celebrating Arts Week

To celebrate arts week, we would like as many people as possible to create some artwork linked to the theme of ‘connecting across generations‘. Get together with your family or friends to create a piece of artwork. It can be anything you want! You could create a family portrait, a landscape of somewhere you like to visit or just your favourite picture.

It would be great to see everyone working together to create one piece of artwork. Send any pictures or your final art work to Miss Barnett or email them to [email protected] by Monday 17th July.

Here are some examples if you need some inspiration!

Amazing art work in class 7

As part of our last expedition in year one we have been studying the work of space artist Peter Thorpe. We held a gallery walk and critiqued some of his pieces before planning and drafting our own. Our mini expedition culminated today with our final drafts, coloured brightly with oil pastels. Below are just some of the amazing work the children have done.

Awesome job guys!

Year 1 celebration of learning

Mrs Rodgers and Miss Schon would like to invite parents in on Wednesday 5th July at 2:15pm for a coffee and a chat. If you are able to come in, we will invite your children to come and share their passage presentations with you, which is a great piece of work that will explain all about their learning this year. We hope you can make it x x

And thats a wrap on the phonics check Y1

The children have absolutely blown us away with the hard work and dedication they have put into their phonics learning this year and this weeks phonics check proved that the hard work really has payed off. Miss Schon, Miss Cooper, Mrs Clay and I are over the moon with the effort you have all put in and we hope you all enjoyed your ice lolly treat in the sunshine!

Y1: Phonics Screening Check

This week the children in Year 1 are taking part in the National Phonics Screening Check. The children have been well prepared for this through our Phonics and Shared Reading sessions throughout Reception and Year 1.

In the check this children will be asked to use their phonics to read some real and some pseudo (nonsense) words.

If you would like more information about this, please follow the link below to find out more and as always please contact you child’s class teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
