Recently we have been looking at recounts in different forms and this week we focused on blog entries. Before we wrote our blogs, we identified the different features that needed to be used by looking at good examples. We then planned our blogs ready to write! I wonder whose blog entry makes it into our book!
Mr Taylor planned a great lesson today where the children had to edit photographs to match a set criteria. They had to make photographs look like they were taken at night, taken somewhere tropical or even taken in the middle of autumn! I was SO impressed with the results! Well done guys!

Yesterday year 6 took their photography skills to the woods. They captured different images focusing on perspective, framing and varied angles. We are looking forward to collating their images and ‘showing them off’!
Which images will be published in our year 5/6 book?
I was very impressed with the photography that took place in Years 5 and 6 during our hook week after Easter. Today we started case study 2 – art / photography, and the work that the Year 6 children have produced hasn’t disappointed!
We began by recapping the different angles and techniques that can be used when taking the perfect photograph. We then completed a silent discussion to critique emotive images that were taken during the pandemic to capture emotions that people were experiencing.
The children then spent time recreating some of the images focusing on the angles, the mood and the effects of the photograph.
I can’t wait to see their work progress over the next few weeks and what they capture to be published in our Year 5/6 book. Well done all!
During our photography lesson today, Y6 looked at some of the influential photographs taken during the pandemic. The children tried to recreate these photographs using their environment and they then edited the pictures to try and portray different emotions and moods.
Watch out for the upcoming video of the photographs that the Year 6’s captured using iPads!
Last week, the Year 5 and 6 children took part in a phase-wide debate around whether or not a national lockdown was the right thing to do, with Year 5 students taking one side and the Year 6 students taking the other.
The debate went on for 45 minutes before time unfortunately ran out, with students on both sides still eager to put their point of view across. There were some brilliant points argued on both sides with students showing fantastic confidence to be able to stand up and speak across the hall. All of the staff members who attended the debate were blown away by the quality and thought put into each of the points. Not only that, we were all really impressed by the way in which students sat and listened to all of the arguments without shouting out and interrupting one another. A massive well done to all involved!
These were my two favourite outfits from my class today and both for very different reasons!
First we have Corey! Corey is in his homemade outfit which includes arithmetic questions that he has been focusing on in Magic Maths! I am so impressed that he included Bodmas and algebra questions!
Second we have AJ! I love his ‘I got skills, they’re multiplying’ t-shirt! Who doesn’t love a bit of Grease!

A huge shout out to Cohen in Crew Knowles who has been busy completing some of the challenges this week!
Cohen completed Captain Tom’s challenge by walking 100 x 100 steps! Wow!
He has also taken a walk around the local community to see how much ‘maths’ he could find! Look at everything he discovered!
