We had lots of fun last Friday to celebrate Red Nose Day! It was so lovely to see lots of our children in red and enjoy a treasure hunt planned by Miss Barnett and the school council!
Red Nose Day Challenge
Happy Red Nose Day! It is great to see so many of you dressed in red to show your support today. Thank you for all your generous donations. The school council have one last challenge for you! Over the weekend, we wonder how many different red things you can find.
You could have a look around your house or even venture outside on a walk. Count how many different red things you can find to share with your crew on Monday. You could even take some pictures or draw what you can see.
Crew Knowles: Science Investigation
Jack, our crew councillor, did a wonderful job of leading his crew in a science investigation involving fingerprints! He was so patient and supportive with everyone and did a great job of explaining the task! It was really interesting to see everyone’s finger prints and figure out whether they were made up of loops, arches or whorls! Fantastic work Jack!
Y3/4 ‘Out of This World’ Assembly ⭐️
Well done to all our winners from this week! Whether you are a ’Star Reader’, ’HoWLs point winner’, our ‘Out of This World’ for this week or even just had a shout out, everyone of you have been a deserved winner. Well done!
Celebrating British Science Week
Today marks the start of British Science Week and we can’t wait to get involved when we get back to school next week. Each crew will take part in a fascinating fingerprint investigation led by the school council. We will also have science club attending the coffee afternoon (Wednesday 15th) to share some of the exciting things we get up to at science club.
In the meantime, there are a few challenges you can get involved in at home and bring into school next week.
For Tuesday – Create a timeline of scientists through history. What are some of the greatest discoveries and who made them?
For Wednesday – Invent like a Victorian. Channel your inner inventor and design something to make life at home easier.
For Thursday – See and Eat Vegetables. Investigate the connection between how vegetables grow and how they end up on your plate.
You could also find your own investigations to try! Send any pictures of you being a scientist to your phase leaders. We can’t wait to see what you get up to!
Y3/4 Presentations of Learning
A reminder that Y3/4 presentations of learning will take place the week commencing 27th March. Please join us in the hall so that your children can share their learning from the last term in a fun family learning style event! If you have children in separate classes, we can arrange for them all to attend the same session.
Please see the schedule below:
Class Hilton / Pearson – Monday 27th March 2pm
Class Gerrard – Tuesday 28th March 2pm
Class Knowles – Wednesday 29th March 2pm
Class Taylor – Thursday 30th March 2pm
We look forward to sharing our learning with you!
Crew Knowles: Classification is key!
Today we have also looked at classification keys and how these can be used to group animals based on their characteristics. It was great to see the children coming up with their own questions to classify the animals!
Crew Knowles: Roll on the wall!
Today we played a great game of ‘roll on the wall’. This is whether the children got so many seconds to look at a picture before running back to their group to copy it from memory. Whilst having fun, we were also learning the different ways that animals can be classified!
Crew Knowles: Fun Food Chains!
We have been learning about food chains and the flow of energy through the chain from the producer to the consumers. We enjoyed playing an interactive game and constructing different food chains whilst also learning whether each animal was a carnivore, omnivore or herbivore.
Crew Knowles: Finding the perimeter
Class 12 had great fun learning about perimeter and understanding to work it out! We started off using squares to help us but have since moved on to more challenging questions, including irregular shapes!
