Christmas Gift Donations for Thorne Food Bank

Just a reminder that KS1 are looking for donations of small gifts to spread some Christmas cheer to the children of Thorne as part of our ‘Not All Superheroes Wear Capes’ expedition. We intend to hold a family learning event on Thursday 16th November to wrap the gifts and these will be presented to the food bank on the evening of our award ceremony.

Ideas for gifts could include – bubble bath/toiletries, hair accessories, small soft toys, chocolates, sweets, stationary such as stickers, pens, pencils or notebooks, reading books or jigsaws etc.

Gifts should be handed to your child’s class teacher before Wednesday 15th November.

Or, if you would prefer, you could send in a small cash donation instead and we will buy a gift on your behalf.

Please help us to be heroes in our community.

Many thanks

Anti-Bullying Week – 13th November

Anti-Bullying Week 2023 will take place from Monday 13th – Friday 17th November. The theme is Make A Noise About Bullying.

This week, your crew councillor will be leading a crew session where you can make some noise. What can you do to make a noise? Look out for our school video!

On Friday 17th November, we will be supporting Children in Need with a non-uniform day for a suggested donation of £1. Crew Council have voted to ‘wear something that makes you smile.’

You could wear your favourite jumper, dress up as your favourite character or just come in your pyjamas.

We will also be having a bake sale where you can buy a bun for 50p. If you would like to donate any buns, please bring them to the office.

Times Tables Rock Stars Challenge!

As part of our commitment to make maths exciting and high profile in our school, we are taking part in a friendly competition involving schools in England. The competition runs from 07:30 GMT Tuesday 14th November 2023 to 19:30 GMT Thursday 16th November 2023. It’s all done online via play.ttrockstars.com.

Children can play in any game mode with every correct answer to a multiplication or division question, earning themselves, their class and the school a point. The Times Tables Rock Stars platform will calculate the class average (the number of correct answers per pupil in the class who play during the competition hours, subject to a daily 60-minute limit (see below). Winning classes in the school and in the competition as a whole will be the ones with the highest average.

To support player wellbeing, there is a daily time limit of 60-minutes per player. In other words, each player can earn competition points for up to 60-minutes between 07:30 GMT and 19:30 GMT on 07:30 GMT Tuesday 14th November 2023 to 19:30 GMT Thursday 16th November 2023. Once the player goes beyond 60-minutes of play on that day, they will still earn coins but will no longer earn points towards the competition.

Which Crew will be victorious? Who will rock their way to glory? Only time will tell…….

KS1 – Request for Glass Jars & Wrapping Paper

Next week, the children will start work on their decorated glass-jar candle holders. If possible, please could you send your child into school with a clean glass jar (no bigger than jam jar size). Please wrap up carefully and / or pass directly to class teacher.

We would also greatly appreciate any donations of Christmas wrapping paper as we will be using this in our family learning event on Thursday 16th November.

Thank you all for your continued support,

The KS1 team x

Class 7 – Performance Poetry

In our reading lessons this week, we have been looking at some animal poems and practising how to recite them with appropriate intonation. Here is a short performance of some children reading, Joey the Bull. The video doesn’t quite do the real-life performance justice so please check out the poem itself below and perhaps the children will enjoy performing at home as well! Enjoy 🙂

Year 2 weekly spellings

We want to let parents and carers know which spelling rules we have been practicing each week so that you can support your children at home too. They have done so well in their spelling sessions and some extra practise at home would be amazing! Please remember to share their learning in their homework books…thanks for always supporting us!
