Switching On Our Listening Ears

In phonics sessions this week we are working hard to get better at tuning into environmental sounds and identifying the things we can hear. The children know that they need to be quiet and switch on their listening ears to help them explore all the different sounds around them. We had great fun going on a listening walk this morning. We heard the Year 1 children having fun in their PE lesson, our footsteps on the stairs and even Mr Oldridge talking to his crew! The children were then able to draw pictures or make marks on paper to represent the sounds they heard!

Then in our independent learning time some children chose to make listening ear headbands to help them tune into sounds outside. We heard the birds in the trees, the cars passing by and the children playing in the playground. Maybe you could try and tune into some environmental sounds at home like the microwave or the kitchen tap? You could also play a listening game using the video on this link https://youtu.be/h0Kp_J9kvNM
