History Club

The children in History Club continued their learning on D Day tonight by adding to the 80th Anniversary commemoration display in the KS1 corridor. Children from all year groups have contributed work to the display and I am blown away by both the quality of the work, and the empathy shown in the content of the writing. We discussed the Normandy landings on the morning of the 6th of June 1944, and the children learned about the reasons behind the previous evening’s mass drop of paratroopers behind Hitler’s Atlantic Wall and how these brave men fought to capture and hold roads and bridges to secure a safer passage for those who were to follow in the beach attacks the next day.

There are still a few finishing touches to be added and photographs of the completed display will be blogged as soon as it is completed but here is a sneak preview…

Crew Jackson – Book Fair Visit

This afternoon we visited the Book Fair to look at the different books available. We really enjoyed looking for books by our favourite authors and at new books that we might enjoy. We finished our visit by sharing some of the funny picture books – our favourite was ‘Who’s poo is this?’

Don’t forget the book fair is still open today after school and tomorrow at 8:15am, 3pm and 4pm. Still time to take advantage of the buy 3 for the price of 2.

Walk & Wheel Challenge

The Walk and Wheel Challenge – 17 – 28 June 2024

As part of our Year of Active Travel, the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) is launching a brilliant new schools’ initiative across the region in June 2024 – The Walk and Wheel Challenge.

And we’re asking every parent and guardian to support the programme.

Between the 17th of June and the 28th  of June 2024 (10 school days in total) we’d like every primary aged child in the region to choose Active Travel as their way of getting to and from school each day. Active Travel means walking, wheeling or cycling to school, and leaving the car at home.

Choosing Active Travel contributes to better physical health and mental well-being for everybody who uses it. Asking children to use it from a young age encourages them to automatically think about Active Travel in the future, when jumping in the car may have seemed the obvious option. The more of us who choose Active Travel will also help contribute to better environments, safer roads and cleaner air.

Year 6 Leavers Hoodies have arrived!

Well, this morning was such a lovely crew session with children receiving their leavers hoodies; they have been waiting eagerly for them and were excited to final put them on! Children are welcome and encouraged to wear their hoodies with pride for their final half term in school. I must say, they look absolutely fantastic in them! A special thanks to the Y6 staff, parents, Friends of Green Top and Adele at TOGs for their efforts in making this possible.
