Story Telling in Crew Ambler

On Monday in English, the children worked collaboratively to tell a story just from the images. They had to listen carefully to each others ideas and explain their opinions to their group. We then went on to listen to the story and discuss whether our own ideas had been similar or different to the real plot.

I really enjoyed listening to your discussions and story telling well done Crew Ambler!

Year 2 draft writing

Here are just a few examples of some draft writing that the children did today. Tomorrow they will turn this into a newspaper report and use their critiques from their friends today to improve their coherence, vocabulary and punctuation.

Peer critique at its best 👌

The children have today worked with a partner to read, edit and critique each others writing. I can’t wait to see the improvements in their writing tomorrow, following on from today’s English lesson.

A really great lesson today showing how being kind, helpful and specific in their critiques can support their peer’s learning.

Year 2 maths talk

I am really impressed with the conversations that are taking place during our daily maths talk sessions. The children are using the sentence stems to support their own reasoning and challenge other children’s understanding. Major improvement in this, well done class 8

Awesome first draft

Bobby and Ellis won our Learning Legend postcards today for their outstanding first draft of a letter to our local MP Mr. Fletcher detailing our learning and asking him what can be done about the impact we are having on our world. I can’t wait to see what your final pieces look like after we complete the editing process tomorrow.

Awesome!

Crew Knowles become storytellers!

In reading today, each group were given a set of images from a book. They didn’t know the title of the book and had no context around it either! Each group had to use their inference skills to tell a story based on the images alone. I was so impressed with their skills and picking out the important themes such as deforestation.

Well done, Crew Knowles! You have really worked hard today!

Magic Maths

Crew Knowles enjoyed Magic Maths today focusing on strategies to support with remembering the 9 times tables. We focused on the patterns we could see and then applied our knowledge by playing a game. Well done to Gracie-Mae our winner!

WWF Tiger conservation

This morning year 5 took part in a webinar by the WWF on tiger conservation. The children loved seeing the images of the tigers on the hidden cameras and were definitely better at spotting them than me! They listened carefully to the information and therefore got all the quiz questions right!

A Book and a Bun

Join us in Nursery on Wednesday 9th March from 8.30-9.10 to share a book with your children and indulge in a sweet treat.

Sharing a book with your child can help develop their vocabulary and support their early literacy skills as well as a love of reading.

We hope you can join us next week.

Reading Fluency

Y6 practised their reading fluency skills by performing speeches from our expedition books. Each group read their speech fluently with great passion to protect our endangered species!
