Ready, Steady, Cook!

This morning year 5 hooked themselves into their Food Technology case study by taking on a ready, steady, cook challenge. Each crew split into 4 smaller teams and were given a mystery bag of ingredients. It was their choice how they prepared the foods and used them to create a dish. Check out the photos on the slide show below to see how they worked together to design and make their dishes.

The children produced fantastic dishes and I was very impressed with their team work. They were so proud of the way they presented their final food.

We had a special judge who came to sample the year 5 dishes and select winners for presentation and taste!

Time capsule treasure hunt

Class 8 had a fantastic afternoon today where they worked collaboratively to complete clues to help them to work out the location of the treasure!!!

The treasure which was buried in our school office had been there since the year 2000.

We enjoyed reading the letters inside there, looking at the photos of some of the children and the drawings that they did.

We took a photo in the exact same spot of a photograph that was inside the time capsule.

What a fabulous afternoon

Amazing standard of work

Well done Nathaniel, Carter and Cara. They shared their work from the Spring expedition with Andy Sprakes today, an executive of the XP Trust, and he was so impressed with the standard that he saw. He sent them a postcard to celebrate their progress and we are all very proud! Keep up the great work! X

Innovating our hook week text

Class 8 worked really hard this morning to innovate our class text. They have worked collaboratively to improve it and have practiced retelling their stories using symbols and actions. They did so well and I can’t wait to see the writing that comes from this work!

Well done! X

Baby photo matching game

The children enjoyed being hooked into our new expedition by trying to match photographs of adults in school to their baby photos. They were being historians by looking for clues and reasons for why they matched certain photographs. What great fun!

Well done class 8- Mrs Shaw x

We are scientists!

Today we had a fantastic science hook day in Crew Jackson. The children shared their previous knowledge on the biology of the human body, by working collaboratively to draw where they thought the organs are inside themselves.

They then went on to check the correct location and shape of the organs and work together to ensure they could locate them more accurately. Well done guys for for some fantastic work.

Drone fun in ks1

This afternoon, the children were very lucky

as they had a drone expert in to show them how we can take aerial photographs and get a birds eye view of everything on the ground.

They loved watching it take off and fly over the school but they especially loved seeing the photographs afterwards which showed a lot of Thorne and areas surrounding the school.

what a fantastic experience!

Thanks so much to Geoff for coming in and doing this for us…the children appreciate it so much as we will use these photos in our Summer expedition!
