Year 3/4 are excited to celebrate their learning from this term for our expedition ‘From bean to bar: What is the cost of a bar of chocolate?’

The children in History Club continued their learning on D Day tonight by adding to the 80th Anniversary commemoration display in the KS1 corridor. Children from all year groups have contributed work to the display and I am blown away by both the quality of the work, and the empathy shown in the content of the writing. We discussed the Normandy landings on the morning of the 6th of June 1944, and the children learned about the reasons behind the previous evening’s mass drop of paratroopers behind Hitler’s Atlantic Wall and how these brave men fought to capture and hold roads and bridges to secure a safer passage for those who were to follow in the beach attacks the next day.
There are still a few finishing touches to be added and photographs of the completed display will be blogged as soon as it is completed but here is a sneak preview…
At the end of this week we will be doing our spelling touchdown, if you could encourage children to practise these, that would be great! Feel free to send picture of them working hard for some HOWL points too.. Thank you, the Year 3 team!

Tomorrow is Year 3s XP Outdoors day.
Please can we remind all parents/carers to ensure that the children bring their XP outdoors kit with them tomorrow. This includes a change of clothes and footwear suitable for spending time outdoors (weather appropriate) as well as sunscreen / hat and a water bottle during particularly warmer weather.

WOW what a fun morning year 3 have had! Mr Kershaw taught the children how to make brownies in oranges and cook them on the fire. The children practised fire safety and cooking all in the same lesson.
The children had a brief introduction to the popular Mayan City, Chicken Itza and the importance of the pyramid, El Castillo.
They then looked at some oil pastel techniques to recreate their own version of this.
Here they are in action, their final pieces were wonderful, hopefully we will get some of the finished ones uploaded soon ☺️.

Here are the Y3/4 girls who were victorious at our Trust football tournament recently! Well done again!
Jake, in Year 6, approached the school and his crew with wanting raise awareness around MND. Being a big fan of Leeds Rhinos, he has been inspired by Rob Burrows’ bravery and the superb effort of his ex-team mate, Kevin Sinfield. As a crew, we have planned a MND day for Friday 19th April for the whole school.
We are encouraging all children to wear something white, yellow or blue for a small donation that will go directly to the MND association. We will also be holding a coffee and cake morning in our school hall, all of our parents and carers are welcome to join us from 8:45. Jake has also secured a fantastic raffle with many excellent prizes which includes:

Tickets can be purchased at the coffee morning or by sending your child with the money- Y6 children will visit classes daily with raffle tickets. Tickets are priced at £1 each or £5 for a strip.
Alongside this, children from Crew Mumby will be selling wristbands and badges throughout the week (week commencing 15th April) and will visit all classrooms daily. Wristbands and badges are priced at £1.
I’m sure you will agree that this is a fantastic cause to support, particularly when our students organising these fantastic community events.
