Does having longer legs make you jump further?

On Tuesday, we investigated whether height affected the distance that you can jump. We predicted that the taller you are the further that you could travel. However, after carrying out the experiment and using tape measures to measure the distance, we found that it didn’t matter how tall you was and was surprised to see that some of the shorter people in our Crew jumped the furthest.

Class 14 : Do people with longer legs jump further?

This morning we started science week by talking about this years focus – connections. We talked about what we are connected to: family, friends and animals. As well as other things like the internet, electric circuits and different parts of our body.

After that we looked at our question: Do people with longer legs jump further? We predicted that it wouldn’t matter how long people’s legs were and that just because they had longer legs it didn’t mean they would jump the furthest. Then, we investigated.

When we had all done three jumps, we found our average. We put all our results on a class results table.

Our results – it didn’t matter how long our legs are. Even some people with the shortest legs jumped the further!

Crew Science led by our School Councillor Kianna

This morning Kianna led our crew science task. She explained the task to the rest of our crew and then helped them to collect their finger prints. We talked about how forensic scientists look for fingerprints to help them solve crimes and that everyones fingerprints are different.

I wonder if you can look around your house and find any fingerprints on glass? You might even want to look at everyones fingerprints in your house and see who they belong to.

Aspiration Week Volunteers!

We are still looking for people to coming and share their stories with our children during Aspirations Week. This is a week where we will be encouraging children to have aspirations beyond their schooling life. We will be looking in to various careers, interests and opportuntiies that are availble to them. We would love to invite parents, carers and family members into school to talk about their chosen career paths. If this is something that you would be interested in then please complete the google form and we will be in touch to arrange this with you!

Thank you to those that have completed it already!

Crew Myers – Our Fingerprint DNA!

This morning, to kick start Science Week, we investigated our fingerprints and what they are used for. We identified that everyone’s fingertips are different even though they can sometimes look very similar.

We then used lead to record our finger prints and observe what patterns we could see in them. There was lots of Arch, Loop and Whorl prints in our Crew.

I can see lots of future Police Investigators from Crew Myers – Great job everyone!
