NSPCC number day- Friday 2nd Feb
This year, Green Top are taking part in NSPCC’s National ‘Number Day 2024’.
Everything the NSPCC does protects children today and prevents
about tomorrow.
The NSPCC need our support more than ever. By raising money, we can help to fund their
vital services such as Childline – the helpline that’s always there for children and young
people whatever their problem or concern. Number Day is a great way to make maths fun and bring about a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude towards it.
We are having a fun day of maths activities and we will be taking part in ‘Dress up for Digits’. Pupils are asked to wear an item of clothing with a number on it (football shirt, cap, netball shirt or even a onesie!). Or get even more creative by dressing in a maths or numbers theme. To help raise money for the NSPCC, we are asking for donations, and we’d love everyone in the school to take part in this special event.
It all adds up!
We’re really looking forward to all the fun of Number Day, and we really appreciate your support. All the money we raise at Green Top School will make an enormous difference to children today and help the NSPCC be there for children tomorrow.
Please see the letter below about how your child can access the online handwriting programme at home. This is a wonderful resource which will not only support your child in developing their cursive handwriting but will also enable them to work on improving their spelling too.
If you have any issues accessing letter-join or need support navigating your way around the site, please see your child’s class teacher who will be happy to assist you.
This term, Year 5 will be continuing XP outdoors with Mr Kershaw. This will now be on a WEDNESDAY morning! Please can children bring a sensible and warm change of clothes and shoes as they will be outside.
PE will continue to be on a THURSDAY afternoon so children will need appropriate PE kits for outdoor PE.
Many thanks,
The Year 5 Team x
This morning Year 6 had a teacher from Trinity come and lead a maths session on simple algebra. It was fantastic to hear what a great impression the children made on their potential secondary school maths teacher; they demonstrated a hard-working attitude and a high level of respect. Well done everyone!
Class 7 have started their new class text today called The Tin forest so we had a go at making a tin forest. Great effort from everyone today thank you for such a lovely afternoon.
Miss Hilton and Mrs Clay
On Friday KS1 came together to share their learning so far with each other. Each class did a short presentation to give an insight into the country they will be learning about this term. We even managed to surprise Mrs Overson who came along to share the children’s learning so far.
It was so lovely to see how excited each class was about their country and to see all the lovely crafts they have been making to immerse their classrooms. The KS1 corridor looks AMAZING!
KS1’s expedition this term is called ‘The Blue Planet – How will what I do today impact the world tomorrow?’ We are so excited about this expedition and we have lots of fun surprises planned along the way!
Well Done KS1, what an awesome ‘Hook Week’ you have had. We are so excited about this exciting expedition and we have lots of fun surprises planned along the way!
The children were investigating with magnets today and understanding how magnets attract or repel each other. We also investigated different metals, now understanding that not all metals have a magnetic property.
After investing we took to being creative, using magnets, metal objects and ball bearings as well as some paint to create an abstract piece of art of the Northern lights.
