Paper planes…could our new story be about an aeroplane?

Today we read and followed instructions on how to make a paper plane.  We then had such fun exploring who had made a paper plane that would fly and who had the plane that went the furthest. Congratulations to Lilly who won her heat and then went on to win the final of the paper plane race!

The children then collaborated on building the front cover of our new story and made predictions of what the story might be about based on what they could see.

A fabulous English lesson everyone. I can’t wait to start reading the story tomorrow.

Marvellous Maths Crew Jackson

On Friday I was blown away by the amazing maths that everyone did in Crew Jackson.  The children showed an outstanding understanding of place value by representing numbers in a variety of different ways.  We used pictures, part-whole models, base 10 equipment and place value counters and grids to work collaboratively.  They then went on to prove their knowledge independently on their exit tickets.  I was so impressed that I had to share the photos of their learning with you.

Well done everyone.  You are all marvellous mathematicians!

Class 9’s out of this world

It was an easy choice this week as April has blown our socks off with her amazing learning attitude.  We have been so impressed with her use of phonics to help her with her reading and writing.  What an amazing role model to the rest of Crew Jackson.

Well done April.  We are so proud of you :)))

Fabulous plane craft

I love the little planes the children made in Class 9 this afternoon as part of our hook learning.  They all demonstrated Stickability Stan attitudes especially when it got very fiddly getting everything to stay stuck together!

Today’s learning legends

A massive well done from Mrs Miller today for Lilly and the hard work she put into her maths learning and to Erin for the superb writing she did linked to class text ‘journey’

Well done girls.  You always make us super proud in Class 9!

Artwork to hook us into our expedition

Check out some of the awesome art and crafts we have completed so far this week to immerse us in our new expedition.  The children have shown such creativity, independence and most importantly a crew approach, where they have supported each other to produce their best work.

Class 9’s journey

Today we began to explore the story ‘journey’ which is story told only through pictures. .  The children loved watching the images as a video to music on the screen and made some excellent inferences based on what they saw.  The children enjoyed designing vehicles to overcome some of the obstacles that the little girl faced during her journey.

Well done everyone.  Your creativity and enthusiasm was fantastic to see today! 🙂

Class 9 learning legends are…

Well done Flyn and Edward on your first day back in Year 2. You have both been fabulous and have impressed me with your attitude to learning and amazing reading.  Keep up the hard work! 😀
