Y5/6 Coffee afternoon- Presentation of Learning

Dear parents and carers,

We would like to invite you to see our amazing expedition product from Spring term. Y5/6 will be holding a coffee afternoon in the hall on Monday 19th June, from 2:30-3:30 to view their final product and share their workbooks from this expedition.

If arriving before 3pm, please go the school office where you will be shown down to the hall and your child will be collected from their classroom to join you. If you are joining us after school at 3pm, then please collect your child from their classroom as normal and walk round to the hall together.

As always, thanks for your continued support, The Year 5 and Year 6 Staff Team

Year 5 – PE and XP Outdoors

This half term Year 5 will not be taking part in XP Outdoors on a Thursday so children no longer need to bring in a change of clothes to change into.

Kixx has also finished on a Monday therefore PE will take place on a Thursday afternoon. Please can children bring in suitable PE Kits starting from tomorrow.

Many thanks!

A busy half term in Class 14!

Wow! What a half term we have had! We have covered so much since Easter and produced some beautiful work.

In expedition, we started with case study 1 where we looked at music. We looked at the song ’Down in the Coal mine’ and split into groups to practise different parts of the song and add percussion. Many of you joined us for our family learning event which was a great success with some brilliant song writing.

We then moved onto case study 2 – history. For this case study, we started by creating a class timeline looking at the key events of mining in Britain. We’ve also looked at what life was like for the children who worked down the mine using freeze frames to get into character.

In English, we have done lots of fantastic writing. We have challenged ourself to use figurative language and description to create a narrative poem, character description and setting description. Everyone has challenged themselves to include a range of features.

In maths, we have spent time looking at the four main operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We have applied our skills to answer a range of reasoning and problem solving questions. This week we have started looking at fractions, decimals and percentages which we will continue with after half term.

In crew, we have completed out community crew sessions where we have looked at the importance of having a healthy lifestyle. We found out about Eurovision and completed our coronation activities. It was also nice to get outside and enjoy the sunshine with our A – Z scavenger hunt.
