KS2 Sports Day

Just a reminder to parents and carers about our KS2 sports day. Sports day will be on Tuesday 10th June on the KS2 field. Gates will be open from 12:50. Please enter through the main entrance on Middlebrook Lane. We are hoping to start at 1pm and finish before the end of the school day. There will also be refreshments on sale.

Children can come to school in their PE kits on Tuesday. Please make sure that all children wear trainers.

We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday afternoon!

Class 10 – We are Scientists!

Today, we worked collaboratively to put on our science caps and investigate the properties of different rocks. We found that granite would make a great kitchen worktop because it was very hard and didn’t scratch. We also discovered that slate makes a great roof tile because it is impermeable but that chalk would be useless for an outdoor statue given how quickly it reacts to white vinegar, which is a bit like the tiny bits of acid found in rainwater. Fascinating!

To add to our learning, Beau & Eli found a wide range of rocks in our school’s garden area which they investigated themselves and then shared with the rest of the class. Well done boys!

Year 3 – Product in the Park: Lest We Forget

What a beautiful day for a walk to the park! Today, Year 3 have popped down to Thorne Memorial Park to visit their beautiful remembrance display boards which were produced for our Autumn Expedition, Lest We Forget: How Does War Change Lives? The boards show our digital artwork alongside a biography of the soldiers and people they commemorate, as well as a selection of the children’s poetry about the blitz.

We are so proud of the beautiful work that is displayed here and the message that they present. Why not take a visit to the park over the half-term holiday and enjoy taking in the the boards for yourself?

Class 10 – Explosive Newspaper Reports!

Wow – I was so impressed by the enthusiasm and effort displayed by Class 10 for their final writes this week. We have been working hard on writing newspaper reports all about a volcanic eruption and it’s fair to say that the children have really let their imaginations explode for this task! Check out a few of our front pages below:

Year 3 – Telling the Time Homework for Half Term

In Maths, we have been learning all about time. Children have recapped telling the time to 15 and 5 minutes on an analogue clock from Year 2 and we have extended this to read the time to any minutes past or to the hour. To help consolidate this learning please find some homework below that you could do at home over the half-term holiday. There will be 100 HoWL points for anyone completing the homework!

And, don’t forget, you can still practise telling the time just by looking at any clocks that you come across – anywhere! Why not challenge yourself to read the time every time you see a clock or a watch? Can you get quicker at doing this by the end of the week?!

Class 10 – Beautiful Home Learning

A shout out to Ava this week who has taken her Maths learning home to practise telling the time to minutes to and past. Well done, Ava … if anyone else would like to practise telling the time at home over the holidays, then please keep an eye out for some time homework being posted soon!
