Class 13 – Sketching! ✏️

Today we were able to start Case Study 3, which focuses on art. We have been looking closely at sketching and how we can create different textures to add shading to our drawings. We looked at several different techniques including stippling, hatching and cross-hatching. Ask your children if they can demonstrate and explain what each different technique is!

Class 13 – Touchdown Writing 📝

Over the past week, we have been completing our touchdown writing. We carried out some research about two people whose lives were both affected in different ways by the Second World War. We then produced a biography that will form part of our product; a book that answers this expedition’s guiding question, ‘How does war change lives?’

Class 13 – Remembrance Day 🇬🇧

On Friday, the children were given time to make some Remembrance Day crafts whilst we thought of all those soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. This linked well to our current expedition question, ”How does war change lives?” and it really made the children think about the catastrophic effect that war can have on all of those involved.

Class 13 – Eden Camp 🪖

This week, the children have been able to go on a fantastic trip to Eden Camp. They were able to experience The Blitz, get inside an Anderson Shelter and even see some of the weapons, uniforms and vehicles used during the Second World War! Overall, we had a brilliant day and were able to learn so much new information – it was great that the children were able to experience so many new things!

Class 13 – Family Learning 🪖

What a brilliant morning we had today in Year 4 with our family learning event.

It was fantastic to see so many parents and grandparents here to help the children create their own Anderson Shelters. Who knew that there was so many creative families out there!

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend and support in the class and I hope that you were all able to enjoy it as much as the children did. Take a look at some of the photos from the session.

Y4 – Roman Numerals

In maths this week, we have been looking at Roman numerals. We used lollipop sticks to create some of the numbers and challenged the children to make the largest number possible.

Y4 – Blitz Poetry 🎇🌆

In our English lessons this week, we have been looking at The Blitz and the impact that it had on the country. We have been collaborating in groups to create our very own acrostic poems. We even had to prepare for an air raid ourselves by hiding under the tables!

Y4 – Hook Week

This week we have been getting hooked into our new expedition by looking at different sources of evidence all about the Second World War. The children had to use their inference skills to work out what each of the items may have been used for during this period of time. We have also started to look at some of the main issues that led to the start of the war and created anchor charts to display our learning around the classroom.
