SUPER SETTING DESCRIPTION! ✏️📚

Over the last few days, we have been working on our vocabulary choices using an interesting range of adjectives and adverbs. Yesterday, we practised labelling images with a variety of description and today, the children had a go at editing and improving a setting description.

A big shout out to Levi, Freya and Kaleb for their awesome setting descriptions using a fantastic range of vocabulary!

Fantastic Science Work

I would like to give a HUGE shout out to Freya for her awesome science work today. In our biology case study we have been learning all about Charles Darwin and his theory of adaptation. Yesterday, we studied how finches that Darwin discovered on the Galapagos Islands adapt to the environment they live in. Today, we used several household items to act as the finches beak to pick up small items and see which beak is the best. Freya has produced a fantastic science report linked to our experiment. Well done Freya!

Important: Experiment

Good morning everyone,

Next week in expedition, Year 5 and 6 children will be carrying out a scientific experiment. We will be looking at how different species of birds on the Galápagos Islands managed to adapt and change their beak shape based on the food that was available to them. For this experiment, we will be investigating what shape of beak is most suitable for each different food type. As you can imagine, this will be difficult in the current circumstances as children will need to carry out the experiment at home. It would be fantastic if you were able to have the following materials and ingredients available for Tuesday’s lesson. However, if this is not possible, children should be fine using similar items that they can get hold of.

Thank you

LETS GET JAMMIN’

Year 5 loves used Jamboard and we have recently used it in English to infer what’s happening in images and explaining our reasonings. It was great to see everyone both at home and at school collaborating and sharing their ideas. We then summarised what we have read so far in Skellig.

Reading detectives 🔍

Yesterday, we had a go at the mystery reading challenge that Year 6 completed last week. We all enjoyed working together to solve the mystery and find the culprit of who stole the painting.

It was great to see the competition at home too and children working together on hangouts to solve the challenge.

Well done to you all, especially those who correctly worked out the answer. Great detective work! 🕵🏻‍♂️🕵🏻

We Salute You Captain Sir Tom Moore! 🇬🇧

After the recent sad news of the death of Captain Sir Tom Moore, Year 5 decided to share a lovely story of his extraordinary life.

We discussed all the inspirational things that he had achieved in his life and it was wonderful to hear all the children share how he had inspired them to want to achieve great things in their lives too.

In celebration of his life and to share our thoughts, we created Thank you cards, posters and story boards of his life.

What a beautiful afternoon and a little reminder to everyone:

“The sun will shine on you again and the clouds will go away – Tomorrow will be a good day  💚”

SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST!

Today in Expedition, we looked at adaptation and how animals adapt to the environment they live in. Following from this we played a survival of the fittest game as well as creating our own animals that survive in certain criteria’s.

Well done everyone – lots of fun!
