This week year 5 and 6 had a visit from our very own trust expert – Geoff, our trust photographer! He worked with us on the types of angles, edits and stories we can create using photography.
Our collection of photographs tell the story…after all ‘a picture paints a thousand words!’
Just a reminder to all of Year 5/6 parents that the ‘Hearts for Doncaster’ dress up event will take place tomorrow. Please find a copy of the letter below for more information.
It was beautiful to hear such lovely and confident reading today during All Block. Watching everyone happily reading to a friend and sharing their stories was a pleasure to see! What a lovely buzz for reading we’ve had so far this week! 📚
This week, we are focusing on writing letters to reflect on our experiences throughout the second lockdown. It was lovely to see lots of determined groups today reading the examples and identifying features of a letter. Tomorrow we will begin our first draft and I’m so excited to read your reflections and see some of them in our final product!
A huge shoutout to Levi for his home learning. I am so pleased that you are so hooked and engaged in our photography case study! You have used lots of the camera angles and editing skills we have used this week. There’s some great modelling from his little brother too! 😎
A huge shoutout to everyone that has come in their pyjamas or book character outfits today. I’m so excited to see what you all get up to next week, enjoy challenge number 1! I wonder how many you can find 👀
Today, we have been super busy finishing our non-chronological reports and editing and improving them. It was lovely to see lots of great discussion about writing features when completing peer critiques. This really helped when starting our final drafts this afternoon.
Well done everyone, there’s been lots of writing today and everyone has been Stickability Stan’s and completed some fab non-chronological reports 💫
Last week, the Year 5 and 6 children took part in a phase-wide debate around whether or not a national lockdown was the right thing to do, with Year 5 students taking one side and the Year 6 students taking the other.
The debate went on for 45 minutes before time unfortunately ran out, with students on both sides still eager to put their point of view across. There were some brilliant points argued on both sides with students showing fantastic confidence to be able to stand up and speak across the hall. All of the staff members who attended the debate were blown away by the quality and thought put into each of the points. Not only that, we were all really impressed by the way in which students sat and listened to all of the arguments without shouting out and interrupting one another. A massive well done to all involved!
In expedition this week, the children have been taking part in one of the UK’s largest surveys for children, ‘The Big Ask.’ They were given the opportunity to answer questions about their own lives and how the pandemic has impacted on them. It has been a great opportunity for the children to have their voices heard and there was lots of fantastic discussions in groups as they completed the questions. Well done guys!
