Spectacular Spoons!

I can’t believe the amount of wonderful character spoons we had fetched into school as part of our World Book Day competition! The creativity and effort that has gone into each and every one is amazing!

The Learning Council judged the spoons this morning but it was such a hard choice that we have ended up with 8 winners instead of 4!

Watch this space to see the winning spoons tomorrow …

Here are just some of the fabulous characters!

Year 1/2 and 3/4 presentation of learning reminder!

Don’t forget that our KS1 and Y3/4 presentation of learning takes place on Friday 22nd March 4pm – 5pm. This is a combined event so if you have children in both phases, you can celebrate them both at the same time!

We have been so impressed by the children’s art work and can’t wait to share their work with you in our special gallery!

We really hope you can join us in this exciting collaborative celebration!

If you have any questions, please speak to your child’s class teacher.

Class 5 World Book Day

Class 5 looked absolutely fantastic for World Book Day yesterday. We had lots of fun talking about our favourite stories and characters and making improvements to our class reading area. I am so impressed with all the entries to our story spoon competition too. Remember you have until Tuesday to bring in your story spoons!

Year 1: Miss Schon’s Phonics Group

This week we are learning the sound /ure/ ‘sure cure’. The children are continuing to impress me with their confidence and knowledge of all the things we have been learning. We have set ourselves a group challenge of improving our reading fluency. This week we have been having fun practising our ‘word count per minute’. Our target is to read at least 35 words correctly in one minute on an unknown text. The children have loved this and have said they are feeling more confident to recognise words by sight instead of having to sound them out. I have also noticed that children are spotting when they have not read a word correctly and are going back to try the word again. I am so impressed with you all and it is lovely to see you enjoying reading so much.

I have set the children a challenge to try this at home with their school reading books. Ask an adult to set a one minute timer and record how many words you read correctly before the timer runs out. Can you keep beating your score?

KS1 Community Crew Assembly

Big well done to our Crew Champions this week! We have had some amazing hard work this past week and this was clear with the amount HOWL points being dished out. Huge shoutout for the HUGE amounts of reading certificates given out this week, specially to Martha on 200 reads!!!!

Thank you to our adults for coming to celebrate with us, we hope you agree that we have a wonderful crew in KS1.

Class 5: The Deep

We had an amazing time during our visit to The Deep yesterday. The children were super excited by all the exhibits. In our workshop we learned how climate change is effecting our seas and the animals that live there. We also learned about how we can help to ‘Save our Seas’. I hope the children enjoyed sharing their day with you when they arrived home.

Key stage 1 and Years 3 and 4 art gallery

We have been so impressed by the children’s art work and can’t wait to share their work with you! There will be surprises, visitors and quizzes on the night too!

The event will take place on Friday 22nd March at 4pm.

We really hope you can join us in this exciting collaborative celebration.

If you have any questions, please speak to your child’s class teacher.

Year 1: Miss Schon’s Phonics Group

This week we are consolidating our learning. The children have done so well when showing me how much hey have learned. They have smashed their sound recognition and lots of improvement with reading red words too! Keep practising your reading books at home now so that you can develop your fluency further. I am super proud of you all!

Busy first days of the new term in Y1!

If any of the year 1 children are missing their socks today it’s because they have worked them off in the first couple of days of the new term. We have been trying really hard with our phonics and reading – we had many more books to change today then usual – and are looking forward to sharing this learning with our parents and carers at our special phonics family learning events on Wedneaday for Miss Schon and Miss Rodgers’ groups, and on Thursday for Miss Cooper and Mrs. Clay’s groups.

We have been practising our addition and subtraction to 20 in maths and learning about food chains and the transference of energy in our expedition sessions.

We have also been adding watercolor to our artwork in preperation for our end of term gallery – watch this space for details of this event – and today Mr Kershaw helped us to begin to understand weather patterns!

Let’s hope we have enough energy left for tomorrow’s DISCO!
