Welcome to Year 1

We are excited to welcome all of our new parents and children to Year 1. We will keep parents up to date with things that are happening in school through our class blogs. Today we wanted to share a few expectations that help to keep Year 1 running smoothly.

  • Please ensure all uniform is labelled with your child’s name. If it is not labelled staff will label it. This ensures we have no lost property in school.
  • Please ensure children bring a bag to school each day to keep their belongings safe. Children are asked to keep many things safe in their backpack and it also helps children to carry all of their belongings at the end of the day (water bottles, jumpers, cardigans, reading books, letters etc)
  • All children should bring a water bottle filled with water only every day
  • Please remember we have a no toys rule in school – please keep all toys/teddy bears etc at home
  • All children will need a PE kit consisting of a dark green T-Shirt, Black shorts and trainers or pumps. These will be needed from the week beginning 9th September. We ask that all children bring their PE kits to school on a Monday and take it home on a Friday. For this reason it would be helpful if children’s PE kit was in a separate bag to their every day backpack.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask your child’s class teacher in person or via email.

We are looking forward to a super year in Year 1. We have some great expeditions, visits and visitors lined up for the children to enjoy. More information will be shared soon!

Class 5: Day 3

What a lovely day we had today. The children are settling in beautifully! The children competed their morning activity as soon as they came into the classroom. Then in crew time we enjoyed working as a team to pass the hoola hoop around our circle. The children then showed off their phonics skills and myself and Miss Cooper were really proud of the beautiful presentation in ur writing books. After play we learned more about reducing, reusing and Recycling and began to make some posters to share with the other classes in school.

I am so proud of you Class 5 and I am super excited to see you all doing the Colour Run tomorrow!

Class 5: Day 2

Yesterday we had a great time visiting the XP Outdoors Camp. We sang camping song, read a story in the tents and had a play on the KS2 Trim Trail and 3G pitch. We are looking forward to returning next week to do a special activity with Mr Kershaw!

Y1 and Y2 homework menus and parents overview.

Apologies to those parents who could not access these menus. We are looking into the issue. In the meantime below is a link to the Parent Overview and a screenshot of each year group’s Homework Menu.

Expedition Parent Overview

Children should be able to access these menus at any time from the KS1 Extended Study section in the ‘Children’ drop down menu on the front page of the blog if they are logged on with their own Green Top email address.

Please let me know if you have any more problems

KS1 Dress Up Day

To hook our children into our new expedition we will be having a Medieval dress up day Friday 6th September. We invite children to dress up for a special day of medieval fun! If your child does not have an outfit please do not worry! They can wear their own party clothes and we will ensure they make some accessories to compliment their outfit (crowns fit for a king/queen/prince/princess etc).

We can’t wait to see you all dressed up!

Example costumes – King, Queen, Prince, Princess, Knight, Dragon

Class 5: First Day Back

We had a lovely first day back at school today in Class 5. Lots of smiles and confidence which was amazing to see. This week we will be answering the question ‘How does what I do impact others?’ We loved listening to the story of Messy Magpie and learning about how we can reduce, reuse and recycle to stop our waste ending up in landfill sites. We learned how to sort materials so that they can be recycled.

Well done class 5 for a super day in Year 1.

Class 5 Graduation

I can’t believe the year is over! Class 5 you have been absolutely amazing. What a wonderful group of children you are. You have worked your socks off this year and I am so proud of each and every one of you. What a gorgeous class you are and Mrs Shaw is very lucky to have you all next year in Year 2. Thank you so much for all the kind words, gifts and cuddles. I am going to miss you all so much but I can’t wait to follow your journey and see what you all achieve in the future. Love from Miss Schön xxxx

Mrs Shaws fantastic class today

Today has been another brilliant day: listening to children read, getting to know parents a little bit, creating our kindness stones and designing monsters for our school competition.

I have loved having you class 8 and can’t wait to get to know you more in year 2!

Mrs Shaw’s amazing new class

My new class have been absolutely fantastic today! They have blown me away with their manners, super attitude to school and gorgeous work.

We have discussed our emotions today, started to make kindness stones, coloured in some words about The British Values and played some team building games. I’m tired out but I hope they have enjoyed it as much as I have. See you all in the morning

Year 1: Presentation of Learning

On Monday 8th July Year 1 children would like to invite their grown-ups to their presentation of learning for our Expedition ‘Diverse Doncaster – Where do I belong?’. The hall will be open from 8:30am for grown-up to get a hot drink whilst the children are registered in their classes. Children will then come to the hall to share their learning with you. The children cannot wait for you to see all their hard work!
