Quite literally ‘out of this world’ home learning from Charlotte in class 7

All of the staff and children were blown away by this fabulous piece of work that our Charlotte has spent many hours creating at home after being inspired by our latest expedition, North, South, East, West. Where could your journey take you? In our second case study we have been learning about the inspirational life of Mae Jemison, the first black woman to travel into space.

Charlotte created her ‘sew-lar’ system using felt, buttons and sequins whilst also learning lots of different embroidery stitches. The attention to detail is astonishing…it even has accurate constellations and Jupiter’s famous red spot, a storm that scientists believe has been raging on the planet for at least 300 years! (She also included Pluto, as she has learned that it is no longer classed as part of our solar system due to it being too small and she felt sorry for it!)

Why not ask your children to tell you some of the facts they have learned? They really do love sharing their learning with you.

Carry on aiming for the stars you fabulous little humans and who knows…one day you might go there for real 🌟

Key stage 1 castle product

Year 1 and 2 have put their amazing castle that they created using their new design and technology skills, into our local community. It has pride of place at the entrance to Thorne library and some children will be going next week to take a photograph for their product launch!

If you would like to go and visit the castle, why not sign up for a library card at the same time!

Well done key stage 1…what great work!

Green Top celebrates King Charles’ Coronation!

Take a look at the celebrations that happened across school over the last couple of weeks to celebrate the King’s Coronation – we all had lots of fun!

An extra shout out to the KS2 choir for singing the backing vocals to the video.

Hope you all enjoy!

Y1 Weekly spellings

The children will be coming home tonight with this week’s spellings. Please help them to practise for a spelling quiz on Monday. The words are:

weather, climate, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, North, South, East, West.

Any questions please ask Miss Schon or myself.

Thanks so much for your continued support.

Class 7 King Charles pen portraits

We ended our first case study today by assembling our King Charles fact files in the form of pen portraits. We had worked in groups to do internet research and take bullet pointed notes and then used our SPAG learning to add conjunctions to make sentences. After that we critiqued, edited and improved our writing and used a ’jigsaw’ protocol…where one member of each group split into a new group to share our learning… to produce these truly amazing tributes to the journey of our new King.

Bear in mind the children who produced this outstanding work are 5 and 6 year olds! Just imagine the journey they are embarking on if this is what they can produce in year one!

I am beyond proud of you all xx

KS1 Community Crew

Last week we had another round of amazing achievements in KS1. HOWL point winners who have been working hard, getting smart and being kind, stewardship shoutouts for people going above and beyond for their crew. Crew Shaw won the attendance too, Imogen is so proud to represent her crew!

Huge shoutout to Ruby, who has managed to hit 170 reads!! Don’t forget to write in your reading diary every single time you read to get those certificates.

Some wonderful hard work going on at home too, with celebrations for those children with the highest scores in both Numbots and TTRockstars. Remember to get playing!! If you need a reminder of your log in, just ask your class teacher!

Finally, a magnificent well done to our Out Of This World winners this week, as you can see the children are always SO proud of themselves and its fantastic to see. Keep up the hard work, KS1!

Coronation celebrations in class 7

Another fantastic day to commemorate this once in a lifetime event. Andy Warhol inspired art work and Royal standard collage made up our red white and blue day. This was topped off by amazing effort in writing and wonderful Community Crew celebration.

Have an amazing weekend with your family and friends whatever you are doing x

Class 7. A Right Royal Tea Party.

What a fabulous afternoon we had in class 7 today at our royal tea party family learning event. Our wonderful parents and carers turned out in force to help the children make crowns and to enjoy a lovely afternoon tea to celebrate our King’s coronation. Take a look at the gallery below to see what fun we had.

As always, a huge thank you to you all for supporting the event. The children adore sharing their learning with you.

Don’t forget we will also be celebrating in school tomorrow and you are welcome to send your children in wearing red, white and blue.

Have an amazing bank holiday weekend!

God save the King!
