Crew Knowles become scientists!

Crew Knowles have enjoyed being scientists today and exploring some really tricky concepts!

We have looked at:

  • States of matter (solids, liquids and gases)
  • Reversible and irreversible changes
  • Elements, compounds and mixtures (including the Periodic Table!)
  • Scientific enquiries (electrical circuits)

WOW!

We have investigated all of this today to hook us in to our science learning which will be coming up soon and I am very excited for!

Year 6 visit to Harry Potter Studios

Please find further information and details here:

Dear Parents,

We are so excited about our first school trip as year 6 to HARRY POTTER STUDIO TOUR (LONDON)Wednesday 15th September 2021.

We would just like to remind you of the following:

The coaches will leave school at 8.30am – please arrive at your classroom by 8am.

The coaches will return to school at approximately 8pm (we will keep you informed via text).

Please take into account the length of the day we will be out when packing lunches.  Children will require extra food in their packed lunch – eg. Cereal bar in the morning, normal packed lunch and a snack prior to leaving the studio plus at least 3 drinks. Pupils entitled to Free School Meals will be provided with a packed lunch from school including all above snacks.

Children need to wear their school jumper/cardigan and top, jogging bottoms / leggings and comfortable footwear.

We will have the opportunity to visit the Harry Potter Studios shop, we ask that children take no more than £20.  Please ensure that their money is in a named wallet / purse.

Children MUST NOT bring a mobile phone on the visit but they are welcome to bring a camera (they will need to look after it themselves).  They may also bring a book or something to do on the coach that isn’t electronic.

Finally, if your child suffers from travel sickness, please ensure that they take their tablet before arriving at school and then bring one in a named envelope for the return journey.

Yours sincerely

K Overson

Art Hook Day!

Year 6 have really enjoyed our art hook day where we have practised watercolour skills. Art will be one of our case studies for this expedition so it was really exciting to get a sneak peak of what we will get up to!

Some of the techniques that we have practised have included wet paint on dry paper, wet paint on wet paper, watercolour paint with salt and watercolour paint with wax!

Year 5/6 Harry Potter Day

Year 5/6 have had an awesome day today!  They started the day selecting their house team from the sorting hat before attending Hogwarts for the day.  They attended a potions class, a transfiguration lesson, played Quidditch, made magic and battled their fears in a defence against the dark arts class!  I can’t wait to see the wonderful videos Mr Taylor and Miss Knowles are putting together……watch this space!

Silence is golden!

In crew today, we used musical instruments which he had to pass around the circle whilst trying to ensure that they made no noise whatsoever! The crew showed great communication, lots of patience and lots of resilience! Well done guys!

How many can we fit?

Our crew challenge today was to try and get the whole crew stood on as few carpet tiles as possible!

We managed to get down to three tiles but couldn’t quite manage it. However, I have never seen a crew so determined to achieve something so we are going to give it another go tomorrow! Everyone had great ideas and really developed their strategies throughout to try new things. Everyone had also listened to feedback from the previous days and tried to ensure that they were listening to each other and communicating successfully.

HoWLs and Learning Legends!

This afternoon, we recapped our learning aliens and tried to match them up to our Work Hard, Be Kind and Get Smart HoWLs. We looked at the different characteristics of each alien and decided how best they support us with our learning – it was quite tricky as lots of the aliens were all of our HoWLs! There was lots of lovely collaboration going on throughout! We all definitely worked hard!

More team building fun!

For our crew activity today, we worked in teams and used our hands to pass water down the line and to get as much as we could into the jug! It was a great activity and I was very surprised with how dry everyone managed to stay! The teams worked brilliantly to pass the water and they really acted upon the feedback yesterday to strengthen their crew. It was great to see each team adopting a method and trying out new techniques to see what worked best for them!

Great work Crew Knowles!
