Y6 became biologists today and looked at the different ways that plants can be classified. We built background knowledge throughout the lesson by gathering information in different ways. We then used this information to organise the plants seeing whether our ideas changed each time!
Children’s Mental Health Week
We are celebrating Children’s Mental Health Week in crew all this week and today we listened to a story and focused on who would make up our support bubble.
We listened to the story ‘Lucy’s Blue Day’ and thought about the important message of the story. Why not listen to the story yourself?
After listening to the story, we thought about the people that help us to grow, and the people that we would share our feelings with. We created our own hot air ‘support’ balloon to always remind us that there are people to lift us up!
Why not have a go at creating your own support balloon following the tutorial below?
Classifying Animals
Y6 have enjoyed their biology learning today where they have looked at classifying broad animal groups into subgroups based on common observable characteristics. They started of with a knowledge dump before moving on to building background knowledge on the different animal groups through creating anchor charts. They then had to use their knowledge to be able to sort the animals!
National Storytelling Week
National Storytelling week has got off to a lovely start with our Year 5/6 Learning Council members sharing some stories with our reception and nursery crews!
Don’t forget to fetch in your favourite stories and to watch out for the Learning Council members in your crew!
My Name is River
Crew Knowles are really engaged in our class text My Name is River and we can’t wait to see what happens next! There are a few suspicious characters appearing in the book so have lots of predictions about what we think is going to happen!
In our English lesson today, we focused on vocabulary and word meaning. The class really impressed me with their understanding of the text and the different words we came across.
Well done Crew Knowles! Chapter 12 tomorrow!
Deforestation Debate!
Year 6 enjoyed carrying out a debate in expedition this afternoon on whether they thought deforestation was a positive or negative thing!
There were lots of great arguments both for and against and some very passionate children!
Percentages of amounts
Crew Knowles have worked hard persevering with the skill of finding percentages of amounts today! A big shout out to those who came to learning club after school to continue practising!
Y6 Geography
This week we have spent some time researching Bolivia and looking at the different physical features. We have focused on how the physical features have affected human activity and compared this to the UK. Great work Crew Knowles!
Brilliant Bolivia!
Y6 have been looking at the physical features of South America over the last week and this week we are focusing on one particular country – Bolivia.
Today, the children have enjoyed researching Bolivia and have discovered lots of interesting things such as its many different climates and biomes!
Did you know that both the Amazon Rainforest and the Andes mountains are partially in Bolivia? Also Bolivia is a landlocked country – bordered only by other countries!
Magic Maths
Crew Knowles are working hard in Magic Maths each day to develop their arithmetic fluency. The children have persevered with simplifying fractions, adding and subtracting fractions, and lots of tricky multiplications! Alexsis also did a great job of supporting the Gold Standard group! Well done guys!
